My computer runs on Linux OS.
Apparently, this doesn't need anti-virus.

The best Anti Virus software is QUICKHEAL
1) It does not slow down your system like nortan or macfee
2) It has best features for protecting the bios .
3) It is 100% Indian company (Be proud to be Indian)
4) The cheapest of all

I have used almost all of the above mentioned anti virus, but most of them are resource hungry. Currently my favourite is ClaimWin, both at my office and home. Easily the best Anti Virus I have ever used and the best part is that its free (opensource).

I use the eTrust suite from CA. Till now it has proved extremely effective. Norton has a problem. I have learnt that the hard way. Its a bad looser. When you ask it to uninstall itself it creates a mess. So much so that at times the next AV may not be able to load itself properly.

On firewalls the best rated firewall in the world is a free one. And that one is comodo (or is it commodo?). Its known to pass the maximum number of tests (including some which are more at a theoritical level and are rarely implemented by most others). Very effective.

Huh! don't tell me you use windows. Going online without an effective firewall along with an AV with active scanner is an invitation to annihilation. All sorts of viruses and trojans will come by the drove into your machine and take up permanent residence, sooner than later.

I'm running Microsoft Live OneCare on my laptop. For once, the guys at Microsoft made something without bugs. And something that really works.

Kaspersky works for me the best. Still using the old 6 version which is working like charm. Havent had any virus or spyware attack from past 3 - 4 years.

At IIT Kanpur we have a site license for NOD32. I have used a large set over the years - Norton/Symantec, AVG, F-Prot, McAffee, etc. We have been quite happy with NOD32. Some other family members use AVG Free and are quite satisfied. More are pretty competent, and what is more important is to make sure that you keep your upgrades current!
