I use NOD32, it uses very little resources and it is reliable.

For a firewall, well I just use the one in my Linksys router/netswitch.
Less fuss than a software firewall but very easy to configure.

I'm using Avast Home edition. It's quite good and light on resources. But AVG was very light but it did not catch all the stuff. So after some hopping and searching finally settled on to Avast home edition which is decent.

I really like the Kaspersky AV but they dont offer any free solution( real time scan) and I cannot spend money on Antivirus.. I would rather do a fromat. 20 mins job for me .

Guys now i'am using symantec antivirus corporate edition 10.1.6.6000 and recently they have laucnched Symantec Endpoint protection.an upgrade version for 10.1.6...

Note:Endpoint protection needs minimum of 1 GB Ram,its gonna eat memory for the lunch and dinner.

Tips for avoiding virus attacks:

kindly upgrade your antivirus version to latest as soon as possible.cos the latest version has new patch to fix the existing virus.as day by day new virus are being generated.

Your Antivirus SW should be updated with latest date i.e the S/w should show the date of previous day.the daily updates can happen automatically if there is server.for home PC's you should update manually or select options "automatic update"-"confusion PM me".

Microsoft patches should be installed in your PC.this is the main reason for the virus to creep in...

to do this go to Start->windows update. (or) open IE click Tools->windows update.
click Express install and all the pacthes will get updated in your PC

Note:Pc should be connected to Net.downloading patches never consume more memory or bandwidth, its only in Kb's...so no worry..

try to delete cookies and reduce the space of temporary memory as much as possible...
to do this open IE tools->internet options.dialog box opens...there you can see "delete cookies" and "delete file". press them one by one.
when "delete files" is pressed you get a dialog box "check" the option to delete offline content.

Note: never any data on the desktop or in C drive or where ever your Os is installed.this drive is more prone for formatting thus you can save your data.

your PC will be healthy for years to gether...i promise u will never loose your data...

Pls ignore all the above info if known earlier...this is typed having begginers in mind not for wizards...

Have always used McAfee or Norton AV products.

Clam AV (clamwin) also works fine if someone wants to try open source product.
