Avast free does not have scheduled scans.

Plus I did a test with AVAST,AVIRA and AVG.

We had a USB drive infected with a trojan. As soon as I plugged the USB into PCs with AVG or Avira, these programs raised alarm. However, with Avast, I needed to run an on-demand scan on the USB drive in order to detect.

Not a very good antivirus guard in Avast, I must say.

I use Avira anti vir, and i am quite happy. It valiantly detects most of the threats! Only problem I face is that updates are difficult to download sometimes.
Heard kaspersky is quite good! I do plan to check it out!

Kudos to Kaspersky!

My PC at home got infected by a virus through an infected pen-drive and had become dead-slow. CPU was always at 100% usage. A look at the processes showed me the existence of the regsvr32.exe virus which were working in tandem to make sure the CPU was always choked. I have AVG installed at home, but i dont think it was the latest version. I ran a scan using AVG, but it didnt find anything; tried running Windows Defender as well, but turned out to be another flop show.

I had only heard about Kaspersky on this thread, and decided to try it out. Downloaded a 30 day trial version, and ran it on my PC. It was able to locate all viruses and trojans which had found its way to my PC, and eliminated them. Even with the AV running, the PC peformance hasnt been affected.

Once the trial period expires, i plan on purchasing the product.

Yes Kaspersky is very good product. I use Norton Internet security in my laptop and office I have baught bit Defender total security 2008 licenses, earlier I was using in Norton which is not good with respect to spywhers.

I found Kaspersky, Bit Defender are good ones which takes care of all sorts of threats.

Norton Internet security is also good one which served me from last 8 years.

Regards,

Ravi.

Trend Micro PC Cillin 2007 Internet Security.

May Not be the no.1 but not shabby at all. I like the way it detects almost all of the threats that NOD does and doesn't hog my resources either.

No virus scanner for past six years at office or home and no virus problem either. Use ClamAV on the mail server though.

Using Kaspersky antivirus 7.0. works very well without slowing down the computer, and detects all sorts of threats.

Thanked: Once

Was using Norton 2007, AVG and Trend earlier, but they were using a lot of resources. Tried BitDefender - found it to be better but now using Kaspersky Internet Security and its the best AFAIK.
