Are you saying that a 42" LG LED TV will have worse sound than my current 29" LG CRT?

Why would a LED TV have sound worse than a CRT TV?

Due mainly to the volume of air moved. Your LG CRT TV probably has 4"x6" or such oval drivers, which can move a decent amount of air. The bass end of the reproduction relies heavily on the amount of air moved. Compare this with the miniscule speakers in the LCD with severely restricted diaphragm travel, and it is not difficult to understand the difference.

So what do I need to do to get atleast as good Audio as my older CRT? And how much will it cost?

You can get a soundbar. Quality of sound you get is dependent on how much you are willing to spend on it.

I am not looking for any special sound quality. All I am looking for is the kind of sound available on 12000 Rs TVs 15 years back.

True that.
I hooked up my Neotank to my TV via FM to get any sort of decent sound.
Otherwise, if I want to hear voice properly, the effects are too loud, and if effects are at a decent level, voices are gone.

The least cost option is a good 'sound bar'. Even cheap Home Theaters provide better sound than the native sound of TV.

Not all flat-panel LCD / LED TVs have a bad sound. Panasonic TVs usually have the best sound reproduction and sound stage (they use at least 5 speakers), and very good virtual surround sound image.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Today I was comparing Samsung and Sony in multi brand showrooms. However the brand which I have never considered, LG, has better skin tones and better rendition of warm colours than the other two. I was comparing mid range (Rs 60k to 80k) in 42 to 50" sizes. Sony is the most dull, but renders blues very well.

How is LG as a TV brand? Do they enjoy good brand reputation? I have their washing machine and fridge, but never thought of trusting their TV and AC.

I'm using a 42" smart LG for about 2 years now.
Except for a 500 rupee fix, for some corrosion on a connecting cable, no issues.

LG has got the formula right in WMs and LCD/LED panels. No harm in buying the same. Sony is now more or less a spent force.

ACs are a very different product line from stuff that is pure electronics.

I guess they have lived up to their old name; they are plain Lucky Goldstar!
I do have a Lucky microwave oven that has been working well for the last 14 years!
Their ACs have given yeoman service too!

I was in the same boat as you. LG was never in my radar but, when I started reading reviews of LG tv's and other products, I realized that they offer far more value for your buck in comparison to Samsung and Sony in Tv's and also in mobiles. You can refer to my opinion on the LG tv I bought last Diwali
