300 mm from Olympus you're talking about must be a f2.8 one.

Spot On Samurai!!! Rudra sir, Olympus 300mm f/2.8 is costlier than Canon 500mm f/4 . Can you believe that? Plus EC-20 to make it 600mm f/5.6. BUT EFL would be 1200mm considering the fact that it has a 2X Crop Factor. Which is more than the EFL of Canon 500mm f/4 plus 1.4X TC plus 1.6 crop factor. Which works out to 1120mm.

Ok Enough of Tech Jargons, Here is another one. Its "Paradise Flycatcher" I had real tough time to shoot this fella.

1) You never get head to tail in one frame. (I was lucky to have a 500mm zoom)
2) It never sits on an open Perch
3) Its so active that it will keep on jumping from one branch to other
4) My Bigma takes ages to lock focus on this hyper active Birdie

After 1 hr of continues chase i was finally managed to nail this beauty.

Steeroid, your problem is wrong technique.
VR should be switched off on a tripod. And the Normal mode is used for panning (off tripod) not Active:

Noise at higher ISO might be another cause to worry..(at least i do).

That's why I don't get into birding. I shoot birds only if they show up close. I neither can afford the lenses nor have the patience for birding.

Before you sell your Olympus gear, I want to view thorugh your Bigma and experience 1000mm of EFL. It must be nirvana.

Blame it on Noise Reduction. As you told this shot was more than ISO 400 and its just not possible in Olympus

You Bet its a Nirvana!!! You are welcome to use my Bigma on you E-3. I hope we will meet for some OTRs before i sell it. I will NOT sell this setup until i have a Canon full set.

There is a sleeping photographer in me that wakes up every now and then whenever I go through certain travelogues or pictorials on the web. I know there are some germs in our forum itself (professionals like Rudraji etc.)

I have owned an Olympus IS500 (Film camera) from 2003 to 2005 (over 100 rolls used) before it was gifted to my brother in law. It used to give crystal clear results.


Now I use a Canon IXY 800 IS since 2007 (6 m.pixel). Canon showroom in Bangalore quoted me 22k for same model 'made in china' with no Memory card or cover, eventually I bought it from National Market for 13k original 'made in japan' with a decent cover and a 1GB card.


Presently I am considering Nikon D90 (inspired by Sam's D40 and few of my Lion friends who are using D60 and D300 as their passionate hobby) I have been going through reviews on dpreview.com, dcresource.com and dcviews.com. Also checking different prices globally. I heard its around 85k in India, below 60k in US ($1300) and yet to get the Dubai price. I have a family member who is travelling to US every month and collegues who are regular visitors to Dubai.

It is greatly appreciated if some of the gurus here could guide me on any technical part (good or bad), the pricing area, accessory (main usage is only travel, events, nature, family etc.), warranty issues if bought from outside or anything related to this model.

Dude, the D90 is a great piece infact my brother inlaw picked it up on 4th Oct after watching a podcast from 'Gadget prOn' he mailed me saying that this the best thing he picked since the classic iPod !!
but he said he got it for $1250.
So pick it up, if you have folks shuttling back and forth on a monthly basis, you can wait for a month or so (you know what happened to Leman brothers )
