IOS 18 update isn't working very well for me though. Updated on my Iphone XR. I am not able to make calls and receive now.

Any body facing similar issues?

Update on the above: Jio network is down across many places in Mumbai. Will wait for the above to resolve to see if IOS18 is working well.

Good stuff! Seems like the iOS 18 update is a rare one which has such positive comments from the release day itself.

I have an upcoming international travel in the following week and hence a little apprehensive to update. But I think it's safe to proceed with the update tonight.

Also, I just got the battery replaced for my 12 Pro, last weekend. This was done at Unicorn SC for 7,500/- INR. Took around 2 hours for the entire process.

Battery health is back to 100% and I can see a slight improvement in the charge holding capacity, though not an appreciable difference per se; or maybe a placebo effect (I presume)?

I also did a complete reset and a 'clean install' to clear off any bad data files which might possibly affect the phone's performance.

I shall wait for a few days to see if this replacement was worth it.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Need some suggestion folks. My wife and I have been on iPhones for the last 10+ years, usually changing phones once in 3 years or so. Currently i have an iphone 15 ( upgraded from an iphone 12 few months ago), while my wife has an iphone 13 pro max. Like in many households, my wife’s phone is the default camera phone, used for all photography during vacations, birthdays and events, my son’s school assignment videos and almost everything actually. We do not have any other camera at home, so the idea was that one of our phones should ideally have a better camera, hence the iPhone 13 pro max which we bought 3 years ago.

My wife’s niece works in the US and she might be coming over to India in the next 2-3 months, so there is an opportunity to buy an iPhone from the US since some of the variants are way cheaper.

So my question is, should we buy the latest iphone 16 pro max? Is it really worth the huge premium? Apple usually phases out the current generation pro max variants, so not sure if my wife’s niece can get hold of a 15 pro max. We are not photography enthusiasts or anything like that, but a very good camera helps on occasional long shots, portraits, nighttime photography etc.

Either we get the 16 plus ( cause my wife is used to the pro max size now); or look for 15 pro max if its available in the US. Or the most expensive option is to buy the 16 pro max, if its really a huge upgrade over the 16 plus or 15 pro max.

For basic use, the recent iphones, including your existing ones, are all similar. There is no need to upgrade the phone I would say.

However, if you do want to get one, always try for the latest one. Would be better to get a Pro phone, coming from an older Pro phone.

Get the 15 or 16 Pro Max depending on availability. 16 Plus will be downgrade coming from the 13 Pro Max. A Plus phone cannot compare to the Pro series in all parameters.

On a separate note, updated my iPhone 11 to iOS 18, everything appears stable and smooth.

Cheers

Re: The iPhone Thread

My friend is coming from US & he informed me that there’s a price cut in 15 pro(after 16 launch) in tune of ~$100 USD which makes it available for $986==~₹83k including taxes(TN)

Is it a good price for the 15 pro as even in bbd sale I don’t think it will come for this price. Moreover do unlocked phones from US hold their warranty in India?

Re: The iPhone Thread

US bought 15 Promax upgraded to iOS18 yesterday. For the first time, I experienced the phone getting hot while charging. Never had this issue over the past year, and now..
My guess is a .01 update is going to be out soon.

They do but keep in mind that US phones do not have a physical SIM. Only eSIM.

Local sales here will never be able to match the pricing of the phones sold overseas especially US.

Yes, you can go ahead and get the phone. Warranty (Limited Warranty in apple lingo for those without apple care) will be valid. I got my pro max at launch for around a lakh while here it was retailing for 1,59,000.

As Gannu said though it will be only e-sim, which was not a problem for me.

Edit: If possible, get the 16 pro though as it would be the latest and the cost difference would be $100 or so I think

Have observed that the phone gets hot for the first couple of charging cycles, every time the iOS is updated. Goes back to normal after that.

P.s. In other news, have also updated my father's iPhone 13 to iOS 18 yesterday; no issues there as well. So all 3 devices at home are now working flawlessly post this update.

Re: The iPhone Thread

People who updated their 12 or 12Mini to iOS 18- how is the battery life?
I am still on iOS16.XX as I rolled back to iOS16 after installing iOS17 in the initial days after seeing a noticeable drain in battery life. Also, didn't like a few visual aspects of iOS17. Hence, I am being cautious before updating to 18 as rolling back to iOS 16 will not be an option now.
