yup, I mentioned the same points in my post.

Also as jaggu says, after using this phone for about 30-40 minutes, its more of a hype.
If only they had gone 10% more it would have been what apple wanted it to be, but as of now, its a great thing for fanboys, and just a novelty with no "exclusive functionality for the price" for others.
As for me I love the looks of apple products, so I would love to take an iphone and try to run some other OS.
Or maybe I will buy the 150$ chinese iphone

Finally got a chance to play around with a iphone for about 45 minutes. It was on Vodafone network and cost approx 38K. And I am sold !! Apparently it works with any network here.

Its so damn easy to use ! And I was thinking that its a touchscreen and there will be all sorts of problems with calls / smses on the move - but I was floored with the simplicity of the thing.

Ver 1.1.1 is the problematic one and the earlier one was the cracked one. What I have been told is when it is connected to itunes make sure that your laptop/desptop is not connected to the internet.

The you tube inbuilt feature does not work here.

Also no bluetooth exchange with other phones/devices, works fine with headsets though.

Yes with the inbuilt mail support I could save on blackberry costs too.

The display is the best thing I have seen.

You can't change your ringtone unless you have purchased it from itunes store! I found this strange - somebody tell me it's not true. I didn't try but isn't it possible to set a song as your ringtone on the iphone ?

So am i getting one ?

Apple's strategy has always been wrong. That's why Microsoft dominates market even though Mac was superior than Windows!

PS: I have not touched any iPhone yet.

Woooo. Thanks for that info merve_extreme. Was gonna go to a shop to check one out today. Had saved enough to buy it. But with soo many simple features missing, I will rather keep my money in my pockets. But I guess all the above, I mean most of the above features can be worked on with a better firmware upgrade right ?

You can change a ringtone with itunes but you have to pay for it however there are a bunch of 3rd party applications that let you chose any song as your ringtone.

Also osme of the features like bluetooth file transfer will be added with the newer firmware updates.

Like all other apple products, the iphone isnt about features, its about how the features are used, Ask anyone whos used an iphone how simple everytihng is and how *nice* it looks and feels. Like I said before, if I were getting a new phone, Id go in for the iphone without a doubt. However make sure you have an EDGE or GPRS connection to really enjoy it.

thats not the point.the interface is brilliant but there are far serious drawbacks.

1)Why can one set your own ring tones, forget MP3 why can't one use midi ring tones other than the lousy preloaded ones.any run of the mill mobile has this feature let alone the smart phones.

2)It has a camera that has no settings,no zoom,no video mode,no effects, nothing.

3)Is MMS only available to aliens, that apple doesn't consider is necessary.

Other than the Interface and looks which again are brilliant what does this phone have? And isnt the iphone meant for geeks or atleast those people are buying it the most so it doesnt have to be simple to operate. My only point is the iphone doesn't have many features that are considered given in today's phones and not many will notice it until they buy it.Iphone is a type of device that u will love for 30 mins and then its over as soon as it began.Imagine ur friend asking for that brilliant video and u say,"well i'll have to send it to apple",remember there is no file transfer possible.

definately an firmware update will address many of these issues, but remember apple are not fools they have kept out these features on purpose, they want to mint money.

You get the same cracked phones here.

Wait till January. T-Mobile Germany starts selling iPhones in about 2 weeks, and by legislation German operators cannot lock a phone to their networks for more than 4 months. So you will get legitimately unlocked phones from there.

On the downside, the sale price is expected to be higher since there is only so much an operator can recover in 3 months. But then again a 3 month old phone, even if legitimately unlocked, can only cost so much in the 2nd hand market....

Prices are expected to come down anyway - prices have tumbled from the original 4,000 Dirhams a month ago to less than 2,000 now.

ok let me begin with this, I am a mac user an i hate windows
why ?
simply cause apple is way better than what windows can ever achieve

now coming to the iphone

a lot of people complain about no mms no this no that
what you fail to realise that unlike other phones
the iphone is like a computer
updateable and not a brick for which if u need to update a feature you need to launch a new version of a phone

just to add validity to my point
update 1.1.1 addresses these
iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store
• Louder speakerphone and receiver volume
• Home Button double-click shortcut to phone favorites of music controls
• Space bar double-tap shortcut to intelligently insert period and space
• Mail attachments are viewable in portrait and landscape
• Stocks and cities in Stocks and Waether can be re-ordered
• Apple Bluetooth Headset battery status in the Status Bar
• Support for TV Out
• Preference to turn off EDGE/GPRS when roaming internationally
• New Passcode lock time intervals
• Adjustable alert volume

how many times has your nokia / motorola/ whatever it is you have used been able to add a TV out feature without you buying a newer version of the handset

so an iphone is an investment in a device .. features will follow

also for all those worried about 1.1.1 heres good news for you
Iphone Unlocked: Free iPhone 1.1.1 Unlock is Here

i suggest you guys should really do your research if you are intrested in the iphone, yes its not for everyone and has a fanboy image attached to it

but if it suits your need go get it !!!

noob question, if you buy a brand new iphone which is not activated or unlocked how do you find out what version it is? the first screen when you turn it on is the activation screen right?
