Hi guys, I am new to the world on hi-tech gizmos, but I read yesterday that iPhones do not work properly in India as service back up by AT&T is not available.
Since I work for an AT&T company, I just wanted to let you guys know that AT&T could be starting a network soon in India. We were told of this by Ron Spears, Group GM, AT&T a couple of weeks ago at a lunch meeting. The only reason for the delay is that the Govt of India keeps changing its policies too often, he said.
So, let us be patient.

This is truly amazing feat achieved by this kid....it is phenomenal! I mean, if he wanted he could have made millions of dollars by just sharing the info with some company and not putting the stuff on the net but he chose to share his discovery with the whole wide world! Way to go George Hotz!!

Why would u pay that much for a 4gb? I bought my 8gb for a little less than that from the states and unlocked it by myself.

Thats right Sahil, but I dont have anyone coming down from States right now or in near future. So the best bet for me would be to go for one in India. And the cost of 8gb is about 22k-24k and I am sure that I wouldnt need so much space no matter what I do with it. So the best bet for me to get is the 4gb model.

Bangalore guys, have "heard" that PDA cafe in forum mall has started selling iPhones.. have to check that place too!

Hellwrath,Why do you want to restrict yourself with 4gb.You never know when those space turns useful.I often feel the 60GB of space in IPOD is not enough for me..
Sourcing it from US is far far better than getting a 4gb for 18k.

roopakr,

I went to PDA cafe and found out the prices. 28.5k with no warranty (his words about warranty, I aint expecting any!). I was like ye sure, I may never come back!

Well, Its just an option about 4gig. Apple has started selling refurbished 4gig ones for $299. But I think it is 1.1.2. One risk involved in sourcing from US is that you cant be sure if it is 1.1.2 or 1.1.1. If it is 1.1.2 then the only way out is IPSF and you gotta shell out another $100 to unlock it. I think this is the reason why the prices of iPhones are going up right now.

I bought a unlocked 8GB iphone from the US for 20K. My friend, who brought it, did not make any money on it. Presented it to my wife on her birthday yesterday. She loves it.

Funny that - I got one in exactly the same circumstances and gave it to my wife too!

The hardware is still (not sure if this is true - Mac Rumors: A 16GB iPhone with 1.1.2 Firmware?) all the same. Can be upgraded, of course with a little help from all the "instructions" on the internet. And the SBI price aint too bad, 25,999/- with optional 3 EMIs for 8,666/-

And the 1.1.2 jailbreak is too slow in the making. Probably because there are not too many new features in there. There is one here for the extremely adventurous - conceited software

If you get a 1.1.2, suggest you just downgrade to 1.1.1 and unlock/use it.
