Re: The iPhone Thread

If you have the "stuck at red battery" charging problem, you wont believe this fix.
My wife's ancient IP4 has been stuck at this for some months now. I had kept it in a bag and thrown it in storage.
The solution is heat. I took it out today, connected the cable to my Laptop, and stuffed it under my laptop at the hottest spot.
15 minutes later, voila, its switched on.

Worked for me (2 attempts took me from ~200 mb to 1 gb free).
b. clear running apps
Step 1: From any screen, press & hold the Sleep/Wake button, until the iPhone’s Shutdown screen comes up. (I’m talking about the Power button available at the top of your device, if you’re owning an iPhone 5S or earlier version. The iPhone 6 and later versions have this button re-positioned on the right side).
Step 2: Now, press & hold the Home Button until the iOS home screen is displayed. This signals that the Random Access Memory flush has been completed!

Already tried both the above. But absolutely no use at all. I had to ultimately restore my phone to factory settings. Now few wierd things :-

1) After the reset, when restored the back up from my laptop, the same issue with the phone cropped up again and I had to again reset the phone. The SVC guy says it is because of my data!

Now i cant even see whats on my iPhone that is causing the problem apart from the photos or contacts.

2) The Apple Support over phone said that Apple has this problem of "Others" occupying space in the phone. These are the temporary files, cookies, history etc which i cannot delete.
My Facebook app is currently occupying 450 MB space on my phone!

Totally at my wit's end what to do.

My phone is currently all back to factory settings, got some of my contacts back (dont know whats the point of iCloud/iTunes back up when it doesnt give back all the stored data)

Even if I re-install some basic everyday use apps, the memory will fill up again.

The weirdest part :-

After the reset, i was unable to login to my iTunes/iCloud account and change my payment details on the phone/laptop. Apple Support after checking said all my details had simply vanished from Apple database!

They then did something from their end and made me change some settings on my phone etc, post which everything got in place.

Battery drain is more than before. Don't know if it is do with the applications I downloaded recently. I need to charge my iPhone 6 two times a day.

Another interesting thing which happened after the iOS update -
Not being able to update or download applications. Thought it was to do with my wifi. Tried downloading at other places and different days.

Finally, switched off and restarted the phone. Works perfectly now.

Thanks for reporting back. I'm on 9.2 and I stop software updates on my hardware once a stable version is inside my hardware. I have a genuine need for the night light feature, but not at the cost of my battery life. Will sit on the sidelines until then. Thanks again.

Battery life was pretty bad just after the update, however it's back to normal after the next charging cycle. Phone seems to be pretty much faster also. Those occasional lags have gone

In my experience lately even after removing the pic and the video the whats app size did not decrease . How ever after reinstalling the app size decreased from 1.5 GB to 200 MB ( it might be that IOS is not able to reclaim the entire space released by app). Please reinstall the apps which are consuming larger space.

Pls try and let us know.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Hi,
Given that Iphone5S prices are now Sub 20k INR, is this still worth buying for moderate use like calls, internet and whatsapp ?

To those who have 5S, how is the battery life.. Is it worth buying it from India (Made in taiwan) or from US/EU where its made in California?

Thnx.

I doubt any iPhone is made in USA. All are made in China.

No iPhone is actually made in the US. All manufacturing occurs in China. I do use a 5S as a secondary phone for personal number and Facebook. Does pretty much everything, and the camera is a bonus.

I bought mine on Flipkart. Warranty holds good.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Hi Guys,

A small question - I have recently shifted to I-phone 6S from an Android ecosystem. I had a query regarding storing contacts? How to do we make sure that any new contacts which we store on the I-phone are backed up on Gmail/Google? In my previous Android Phone, while saving a new contact, I had a field for selecting Google as the type of contact but I do not see such an option on I-phone. Can people here guide me as to how make sure all new contacts which are created are stored on Google?

Thanks in advance!

Option is very much there under accounts and sync. If not, try installing Gmail from app store and then try.

I shifted from Android to Apple two plus years ago and back to Android a week ago. Contacts migrations were all handled by Google sync.

Hi, go to settings. Scroll down to mail, contacts and calendars. Select the desired email id and turn contacts on. It'll sync. Other than this, you can also turn the same feature on, by going to the iCloud settings. I prefer Google.
