Its blamed on Make in India which has resulted in duty hikes - why else would Xiaomi OnePlus etc suddenly want to manufacture here? There are a few gray areas still but the broad reason is a hike in the import (Counter availing) duty.

In the Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley brought in a 1% excise duty for mobile phones manufactured in India while hiking the CVD to 12.5%. The resultant a 11.5% difference was good enough to make big smartphone companies think of shifting manufacturing to India. http://indianexpress.com/article/tec...dia-incentive/

iPhone cannot shift its manufacturing here at all - so the price got hiked. The hike amount is as always Apple style disproportionately high.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Whelp, finally said good bye to my 2 year old champagne gold 5S 32 GB, and got myself a space gray 6 Plus 64 GB for 47.5K including a tempered glass screen protector

Still have to collect 2K from the seller after I hand over the original box cover with the bill. Loving the experience so far

Ordered an IPhone 6 (16gb) from flipkart today, costed ₹38249 after getting a 10% Cashback through SBI debit card.
This phone will replace my currently 6 months old HTC Desire 820 dual Sim.

Also, this is my first phone purchased online.
Waiting to enjoy the perfect Apple experience.

Apple sued successfully by University for patent infringement

Now they are being sued (successfully) for patent infringements

Good to see Apple getting a taste of its own medicine.

Re: The iPhone Thread

In love with the iPhone 6 battery life on iOS 9.0.2.
(For anyone who had seen my post before, my iPhone 6 was replaced by Apple due to battery issues recently.)

It's almost a day and a half with 55% left.

Usage pattern :

1/ Connected to network
2/ WiFi/LTE connected all time
3/ 2 email accounts syncing all the time
4/ Editing some Slo-mo on iMovie
5/ Other usage includes around an hour of call, around an hour of browsing, FB and whatsapp sending notifications all the time.

Not an apple fan boy, but really hats off to apple on managing battery so well!
On a side note, the closest battery life I used to get on Android was on my Z1 compact with a much bigger battery!

Interestingly two Indian engineers were behind this suing scene : Meet the Indian engineers who sued Apple – and won

Co-incidentally an Indian was involved in exposing the VW scandal also.

Re: The iPhone Thread

16th October, 2015

Bought the 6s gold (INR 72 thousand) and 6s Plus rose gold (INR 82 thousand), both 64 gb, 6s Plus for my wife and 6s for me. Rose gold being the new color introduced by Apple in the S series looks absolutely smashing, but strictly in the hands of a lady in my opinion.

Sold my 6 64 space grey (bought Dec 2015) for INR 36 thousand which is a very good price considering the new prices on Flipkart etc. My wife upgraded from her Note 4, which was sold for INR 29.5 thousand.

Comparison: It's early days yet, but, the 6s compared to the 6 is definitely a snappier performer and a much improved camera (12 mp vs 8 mp) for sure. Battery life and other parameters have to be seen over the coming days. The peek and pop feature - honestly, have to wait and see whether it would be good to have in the real world or is just a gimmick.

Cannot comment on the 6s Plus as have not used the earlier variant. However, for those who would like phablets, this (6s Plus) is a much better phone than the Note 4 in almost every way except the expandable memory part.

Please feel free to ask any questions and I would be glad to help/clarify.

Cheers

I was planing on an iPhone, but just today morning I was surprised to find an ipod touch 32 GB 6th gen couriered to me. So I think it'll be a perfect little device to accompany me on my runs/gyms/cycle rides. No more worried about phone's battery draining too.

Yes, I'll have to carry around 2 devices at times, but the iPods small size and feather weight won't bother me much.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Looks like iPhone 6s has very bad start in India. Got a call from Infibeam yesterday and they sent an email with Rs.3,500/- discount coupon applicable to iPhone 6s/6s+. Not buying though, happy with iPhone 6 and waiting for iPhone 7/iPhone X

Apple is really losing out with pricing strategy in India, the channels they are using are making money and trying to fleas the buyers. The hype is going to die down soon. If this continues am going to get my next device from abroad.

I think its more to do with product per-se - there are hardly any extras in S , 6S does not justify the extreme premium which is due to 1) - Higher price of S , 2) Huge discounting on iPhone 6 , had iPhone 6 not dropped to 36-38 K things would have been different .

I don't think Apple give such large margins to Distributors / resellers - whatever discounts we see are passed by Apple - I believe they have large inventories of iPhone 6 which they want to sell in countries like India where carrier subsidies are not happening yet .

Re: The iPhone Thread

PayTM is giving 6k cash back on Iphone 6S.

Use Promo code A6000 to get Paytm Cash of Rs. 6000. Max 1 order per user. COD will not be available on applying this Promo code

I belive apple needs to work on the pricing model for new Iphone 6s
