Re: Amazon Kindle

My brand new Kindle 10th Gen flickered quite a bit during installation process. Every 'next' step, the screen used to flicker unnaturally. Blacks look washed out (Especially Titles). But reading books is fine. Also, How do I search for free titles to read? (if any)

If you have got a new Kindle recently then they shall send you a link for 3 months of Kindle Unlimited free. It does not have a list of most books preferred or rather hot selling ones. These few months you may buy your wishlist as they have many offers going on.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Experienced Kindle owners, my new kindle bought last night (10th Gen) flickers (flashes black) while transitioning to another page. Is this normal or is this a defect, since it's quite unsettling for me. Not getting the hang of it, even if it's a product attribute. Should I return the device?

That's the e-ink display refreshing, doesn't look abnormal.

There's an option in settings where you can choose whether the refresh happens every page flip or after several.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Settings > Reading Options > Page Refresh. Tried turning that on/off several times. But there is no difference. I'll use this today and decide on the matter

It’s normal. You’ll get used to it soon. Try reading regularly and see if it still bothers you.

libgen.io has almost every book there is. There’s also a fb group “E-book deals for broke bibliophiles-India”. Enjoy, the Kindle is one of the best gifts I’ve experienced. If you want I can email my collection over to you.

Turning that off won't impact moving between significantly different pages (like a page of text vs. cover art, like your video sample), because the display needs to refresh to render the significantly changed pixels.

With 'refresh every page' turned off and you reading several pages of text, you'll notice every subsequent page ever so slightly less sharp until the refresh happens.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Sorry, I'm new to this. How does the receiver load the books into the Kindle?

There is a brilliant software which I use called Calibre. Import the received files into Calibre on your computer and you use Calibre to export it to the device via USB connection. This is the most convenient way to do it as per me. Another way is to email the file to your Kindle email id.(The Kindle has its own email id-found in settings)

Amazon uses the .mobi format. If you purchase from Amazon then that is the format you get. On the other hand if you are downloading from elsewhere then you could get an epub or .mobi format depending on the file. Like the person above me has said you can use Libre (or Calibre on Mac) and convert to .mobi. Then load the files using a USB cable (as far as I know you don't need any software for this) or by emailing it to your kindle account. This is different from the Amazon account.

Go to your amazon settings and set up a kindle email ID.

e.g. xyz@kindle.com

Then configure email IDs from which you are ok to receive books. When you email books from those email IDs to xyz@kindle.com, they will be downloaded on your kindle automatically.

To convert from epub to mobi, I use Calibre.

Re: Amazon Kindle

+1 for Calibre for managing ebooks not purchased on the Kindle store. Calibre is a fantastic software that is passionately created and nurtured by a single developer. In addition to the Mac, Calibre is also available on Windows and Linux and is absolutely top notch.

For a legitimate, free source for ebooks look no further than Standard Ebooks, which is a "volunteer driven, not-for-profit project that produces lovingly formatted, open source, and free public domain ebooks." Their quality is sublime.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Is there a software update for Kindle PW 10th Gen? Is there anything like an update with Kindles?

That's how e-ink displays work. Basically the pixels align themselves once per page turn (or per refresh in the display) and that's it - that's how they remain oriented until the next change happens. That's why these devices have such great battery life.

If you don't mind, can you please share your list of books? I'm interested to see what titles you own and can share (if that's allowed)?

Re: Amazon Kindle

I have used both Kindle PW and Kindle 10th Gen and have noticed that the Kindle is more whiter than the Paperwhite. Kindle PW has that old novel page kind of light. Is there a way to turn on/off the LEDs including number of them in the Paperwhite?
