Thanks.
I think https://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Child...oks_(Bookshelf) is useful for a 6 year old.

Re: Amazon Kindle

Loving the new Kindle! I also purchased the unlimited membership for 1 year for 1388/- Now for the last two days, I spend at-least half an hour at night reading. Hoping to increase the time slowly...

It's a very nice product. Good customer service too, ordered it on 7th midnight and it was delivered on 9th August.

BTW: There is deal ongoing for Kindle unlimited: 1 year @ Rs. 1388
https://www.amazon.in/gp/kindle/ku/s...g=16CL1Xforums
This offer still exists but is now for INR 1799/year

Some queries

1. I bought my Kindle Paperwhite from US so can I avail the above offer?

2. What does this offer exactly mean? Can we download the books on the Kindle and read whenever we want from any other device (Got a Kindle Fire too from US)

3. When downloaded this book remains on our Kindle forever in offline mode? Or is it only available when connected to Wi-fi?

1. Yes, I dont think there is a dependency on where the Kindle was bought from.

2. Yes, you can download books on any device once you have the membership. It will be there on the device as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I assume the books will be deleted from your device. The big catch: Not all books are available under the KindleUnlimited program. For example don't expect to see books from your preferred authors (based on your earlier post) in the KindleUnlimited program. Most top authors and new releases may not come into this program.

3. Will remain as long as you are subscribed to KindleUnlimited.

Re: Amazon Kindle

I have the previous-gen Paperwhite for about a year now and it's becoming slow(er), sometimes taking a few/several seconds to register a screen-tap.

Anything I can do to speed it up? I'm on the latest software version, if that's of any relevance.

Try this. Go to Amazon.in on your phone/computer. Log in, under your account options, there will be an option -'Manage Content and Devices'. Go to settings tab and check 'Country Settings' maybe it is set to US by default. Trying changing it to India. I think it picks based on the shipping addresses available. In your case since the Kindle was shipped to a US address, it may be picking that by default.

Thanks! Let me try that. Btw, will the above still work if the Kindle was ordered by someone else who paid from their credit card using their amazon account?

Because that's how mine was procured

However, I have registered it with my email and details when I started using the Kindle for the first time

Typically when you buy a kindle, it gets tied to the buyers id. Then if someone else has to use it, the buyer should unregister it from their id. Only then can someone else tie it to thier mail id. The way to avoid it is to to choose 'This is a gift' option when buying. Then it comes unregistered by default. Your buyer would have done that which enabled you to register it with your id.

But in that case ideally the country should have been set to India. Guess you need to check and see.

I have bought 2 Kindles, both are from US and it shows everything in INR. So it should be a settings issue only

Below image shows how it was showing up for "Kindle Unlimited" and I had to really play around a bit and go into settings to check how to change the option to INR

I noted device was in my name and email address but, I realized it picked up my USA home address (when I lived there) and was showing up in USD

Saw an option to change country to India. Voila! Now Kindle Unlimited is available to buy in INR (It shows up as INR 150/month)

In US, It shows as 30-day trial period. Do we have something similar for India as well for KU?

In next subsequent posts, let's discuss the books worth reading from Kindle Unlimited. Any help from avid readers pointing out availability of the authors listed out in my previous posts would help me decide if I should subscribe to it or not

Dont think there is a service center for the Amazon Kindle. If it is in Warranty, you can get it replaced. Else try calling customer care to check what are the options available to you. Please do post your outcome here for the benefit of fellow Kindle users.

Re: Amazon Kindle

My Kindle Paperwhite's battery has started draining in stand-by mode. I am not sure what has happened suddenly. I am not using the device more than an hour in a week and yet the battery is going down rapidly.
(The page refresh is off and the device is in airplane mode.)

Same thing happening to me on my basic kindle. It's only 9 months old. It suddenly started last month. Let me know if you get any solutions.

Is it because of the new update that was rolled out mostly a month or 2 ago? I am not facing the drain in stand-by mode but the battery back up has certainly reduced compared to earlier. Mine is a 2013 Paperwhite BTW. A couple of things to do off the internet links:

1. Turn off the radios - Airplane mode basically
2. Turn off automatic page refresh
3. Manually sleep the Kindle using the power button
4. Check for corrupt books. This could be a cause for battery drain if the indexing is not working properly.
5. Soft restart or hard reboot the device every month of so.
6. Keep the device updated with the latest firmware.

A link that explains how you can check for corrupt books and see if indexing is working properly as well as detailed reasons for the steps mentioned above here. If all else fails, consider calling Amazon customer service.
