Hey... am looking for the same Galaxy S I9000... Samsung reportedly ran out of AMOLED screen's for the I9000... was really happy to see it listed in flipkart this morning. Did you notice that it comes pre loaded with froyo?

Just wanna know if it is worth risking your money on a product that has serious component supply issues.. viz... the Super AMOLED screen. What if my display conks off a week after my purchase? Will i get my replacement without much trouble? Wot say?

I almost narrowed in on the I9003. Wanna confirm if it has a TV out port?

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I am looking for an android phone in the price range of around Rs.9k to 11k.

The features I am looking out for are:

1) GPS (this will be my primary gps device), as my other phone is bb8520 which does not have a gps.

2) 3G - BB8520 doesn't have it, so this has to have it. I use a lot of net on phone, so the browser experience should be good.

3) good battery life- ideally 1 1/2 days should be ideal with regular use, considering it will be large screen.

4) touchscreen - not for anything other than the fact that then the gps usage becomes easier with a larger screen. Prefer capacitive screens. Amoled type bright screens are good as well

5) upgradeable to latest version android.

6) TV?! I have been seeing FTA tvs on some chinese phones- are these available for android ones as well.

If its a great phone I will willing to up the budget to 14k max.

None of my acquantainces use android so its been very hard for me to get reviews!

My 2 cents, LG Optimus One. Falls bang in the price range and has all the features you've mentioned. I've heard that LG's coming with an upgrade soon, so as of now its Froyo (Andriod 2.2) and would would upgraded to 2.3 soon.

Guys 1 feature of my old Nokia that I sorely miss is the phone sayin out the callers name. I am sure there must be some similar SW for Android also. Need to know the name. Kindly help.

A wierd thing happened today, I was talking to one of my very important client & all of a sudden the phone simply froze, nothing was working. Had to actually remove the battery to make it start working again. I am now slightly worried sicne its just 10 days old. Oh BTW its the Galaxy I9003.

Please check if the new I9000 on flipkart are coming with AMOLED screen, since Samsung was also contemplating fitting SLCD screen to the newer one's just like HTC did for the Desire.

Actually, Samsung was HTC's vendor for AMOLED screens and it was Samsung who pulled stopped supply of AMOLEDs to HTC in order to fulfill the demand from their own handset division. Looks like they are still running short of AMOLEDs inspite of that...

I got it from

Swype | Text Input for Screens

You will have to register first on the website, get the installer in your phone and then install swype.

SGSL I9003 is available on letsbuy.com for 18,431/- after applying coupon code "icicilb" and using an ICICI account for payment . Looks like a great deal!
Do note that letsbuy charges Octroi for customers in Mumbai. The Octroi amount is approx 6% of the cost. This was confirmed to me when I asked about shipping to Mumbai.

but XCD35 was about 13k recently in an EPP. OptimusOne is cheaper than that, no?

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I checked the dell XCD35 at a store in delhi day before. It was retailing for 13k. Is it better than optimus? Features look similar, and both manufacturers are not known for their phones.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Just installed Swype on my LG Optimus One. Just amazing. Previously had a 'slide it' keyboard but it was a trial version. This is far more accurate and easier to use.

Regarding XCD35 or LG Optimus one, I would choose the Optimus anyday.

Reasons:

Bigger RAM (512 to 256)

Bigger Battery ( 1500 to 1250 mAH)

I get upto 3 days of battery life with accelerometer off and display brightness reduced to readable levels and moderate level of usage of phone with lots of browsing, little calls and frequent messaging.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Got an update from LG for my Optimus one It's an 126 MB download (version called V10D_00) and update done through the LG phone update software. Now the version shows 2.2.2. The task manager shows more free memory than it used to show earlier. It used to hover around 150M, now it's around 220M with the same set of apps. Don't know the reason though. It warned me about losing user data, but so far the applications I have used have retained the data.
