BUt , you wont be able to use internet while the phone is connected via a USB cable , atleast thats what I have understood after trying it for so many days . But if you install this software n a laptop and you laptop has wifi and the latop is connected to the internet , then this software converts ur laptop into a wifi router of sorts and then you can connect your phone using its wifi .

Heres the link :
Connectify for Windows - Turn your Laptop or Smartphone into a Secure Wi-Fi Hotspot

Ofcourse you can connect the computer to the phone using USB and surf the internet on the computer using the phones internet connection . Its called Tethering .
But this works only on Windows 7 and not on Vista/XP.

For WIN VISTA/XP there's no other way but to root the phone and make certain changes in configuration file to enable it to connect to a WiFi adhoc connection. I don't understand as to why Google hasn't provided this basic functionality

Windows 7 users, however, can use connectify application on their laptops to turn it into a Wifi hotspot. They can then connect their android phone through wifi and use the laptop's internet connection on their phone.

Using K9 mail for last few days and loving it. Way better than stock email application. using Gmail, Gmail Apps and Yahoo mail, all on IMAP.

Tried K9 upon seeing your post and IMHO its much better than the stock Email app. I have a windows live account and the stock mail kept marking my read mails as 'Unread'. With K9 its perfect and with lots of customization options.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hey can anyone here comment on the battery life of Samsung Galaxy SL? Will it last a full day with moderate to heavy usage?

I am tired of waiting for any news on the Galaxy S2. So finally decided to go for the Galaxy S. But the Galaxy SL also sounds a very good deal for my usage which will be mostly calls and SMS and around an hour of internet.

I have a Galaxy SL. The battery life is not that great.
You start with a full charge in the morning say, Then after a heavy use like :
-Wi-Fi On with Background data turned on for Mails/FB/Twitter/Other apps
-GPRS when not in Wi-Fi range again with backround data on.
-Internet browsing
-Music play back for 4-5 hours
-GPS for say 1 hr
would drain the battery by late night.

Again the actualy use depends on the usage. With limited background data the battery should last for 2 days though i havnt tried it.

Also, the upcoming gingerbread for this phone(i hope it really does comes out soon) promises some battery life improvements as well.

and forgot to mention around 1 hr of talktime and few smses

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Just ordered my Sammy 551 (GSM) from my local chap. Rs.11,300 as against 10,990 from FlipKart. Will keep posted on the experience. Epic 4G (CDMA) still under repairs. Parts awaited from the US.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Well lets say you make calls for an hour on average and send around 100 SMS. Plus an hour of browsing through GPRS divided into 2-3 sessions. Will the galaxy SL last me till the night following a full charge in the morning? Also will there be any significant difference in the performance of the SL and the original galaxy s?

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Dr. Mohit:
I was in the same problem!!

The price difference between S & SL is now down to 3,500. In this you get a aAMOLED screen, 16GB internal memory, better RAM & processor and with Gingerbread, this will be device to own.

I have ordered S from LetsBuy for 22400. Expecting it today!!

Hey thats a great price for the S. All the sites I have searched are still quoting 25k. Did you use any discount coupons or something?
