re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Just configured Touchdown on my Ace. Probably the best email app I've tried on the Android till date. Looks better than Road Sync in the initial usage too.

I am planning to order shortly from LetsBuy.

1. Which courier do they use?
2. Did you have to pay any Octrai (Considering you stay within octrai limits in pune)

Thanks for info in advance.

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Got my first smartphone LG Optimus One delivered today. It looks awesome though I m yet to start using it. Delivery was light speed. Ordered on 26th, dispatched on 27th and delivered on 28th. Kudos to letsbuy.

Looks like I need to buy a screen-guard as O1 doesnt have gorilla glass. And also a pair of decent earphones. The stock ones are pathetic. Wonder why all OE music thingys are so bad, be it car or a phone.

BlueDart(DHL)

Not a single paisa more than what has been quoted in the website. I did not pay anything as I picked it up from the BlueDart office which is 10 mins away from my home
Thanks for info in advance.

There is an application called LiveProfile. you can download it on your device from LiveProfile - Stay Connected.

It unites users of Android, Blackberry & iPhone & is a free mobile messenger.

Google releasing 2.3.4 OTA update in coming months. Says will be supporting video calls on 3G/4G/ GTALK. Update may be for nexus series only. Sad to see phone makers falling behind in releasing updates.

But by disabling background data sync, how would the phone push/pull emails?

I was just about to post this as a question!

AFAIK, Defy is shipping with 2.1 Eclair, although Motorola has promised an update to Froyo in Q2 2011.

However, the official Gingerbread update in that case, looks far away.

P.S. Is rooting completely safe, as long as I follow the steps prescribed?

Also, is CyanogenMod the best custom rom out there?

Just a noob question. I think you need to root handset before going for customised ROM so are means of rooting defy around?

Oh great relief. Octrai becomes really deal breaker. I hope there wont be any issues of octrai as blue dart is famous for this .. atleast in my area of katraj.

So i was planning to order it to my hinjewadi office.

Where do you reside?

re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

2ndinit [And Developers] is the way to root. Come on twitter and ask ibproud or come to xda-developers.

That thread on XDA is 203 pages in 15 days. Quadrant score of 1871 (stock galaxy SL is 826) - tee hee. I am so buying the Defy now

@vcash - I dont know about BB - but traveler is an app available across platforms - BUT the way to get it is for your server to run Domino 8.5 & enable access per user. Then you login & your server will give you the executable file.

There are quite a few one click rooting apps like SuperOneClick, Easy Root, Universal Androot and Z4Root. The advantage of Z4root is that you won’t be needing a desktop application to root your device.

This is something similar to WhatsApp, PingChat and etc, this needs to be installed on all the mobiles to be used. Is there any application, which only I need to install to communicate with my BlackBerry pals?

Re: Android applications

I use Evernote extensively. It syncs my notes and snapshots from desktop, laptop and phone.

Dropbox for android comes handy to put images and documents in my dropbox account.

Gtasks, Mobile number tracker (tells me location and service provider of unknown numbers when I get a call). ZDclock as alarm and reminder.

Whatsapp to keep in touch with GF. Can be a pain though. Photoshop express is ok but I am looking for a better and more feature rich photo editor. K-9 for mails.

I miss a good office suite and personal finance app that supports INR.
