Does yewtu work fine? I remember trying it a while ago and it didn't open a single video. Thanks to this post I remembered and tried again but no dice. Is there a trick to make it work?

For me the sequence of errors goes like this everytime for any video:
1. Youtube is trying to block the instance
2. The video returned by YouTube isn't the requested one
3. You found a new bug

rinse and repeat.

Edit to say, this is on Firefox private window but don't think the agent matters?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

For your requirements Iqoo phones are perfect. As already mentioned Iqoo Neo 9 Pro is a great option. Iqoo 12 is good but it is upto you to decide if it is worth it.
Also in Amazon Iqoo 11 with Snapdragon 8 gen 2 and 16 GB Ram is available around 42k. Do check it out. Iqoo 12 is available for 50k but in 12GB version(It's more than enough)
I won't suggest S22 for gaming though due to heating issues. S23 is the one to go for if you want a Samsung.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Everyone.
I have been away from the android side of things since last 6 years. My last android phone was Galaxy Note 8. Currently, my main device is iPhone 15 Pro Max 512 gb. The only reason for which I want a second android device is call recording for my main work phone.

My main requirements are -
1. Good display ( Doesn't need to be big, but has to be 120 fps.)
2. Bloatware free fast software experience.
3. At least 1 day battery life.

Also, I need a few clarifications regarding call recording.
1. Is it legal in India if a call is recorded without announcing that the call is being recorded? 2. Which apps record calls without an announcement in the beginning?
3. Are there apps which record WhatsApp calls as well?

Any kind of help from fellow members will be highly appreciated.

But any Samsung phone that has an Amoled display.

The One UI on Samsungs come with Auto Call Recording feature, which works flawlessly as long as Wifi calling is not enabled.

Not sure about the legality but recording calls without consent is generally considered unethical, which is why some phones have announcements at the beginning of calls. Samsung phones may not include this announcement, but if you're using any other Android phone, you can install Google's phone dialer. Within its settings, you have the option to switch the announcement to a single beep tone which is way less intrusive.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

In my newly purchased S24 faced a weird issue of when the phone is locked the whatsapp calls wont wake the phone, it only vibrates and rings and I have to unlock the device to view who is calling or answer.
Turns out there is a new menu option for Apps access. You have to do the below settings.
Open Settings > Apps

Tap on 3 dots

Choose "Special Access"

Swipe Down to the end and tap on "Full-screen alerts"

Enable WhatsApp

So if anyone facing the issue on latest Samsung devices, please enable the above settings.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

A lot of security vulnerabilities have been found in Xiomi devices.

The vulnerabilities in Xiaomi led to access to arbitrary activities, receivers and services with system privileges, theft of arbitrary files with system privileges, and disclosure of phone, settings and Xiaomi account data

It's worth noting that while Phone Services, Print Spooler, Settings, and System Tracing are legitimate components from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), they have been modified by the Chinese handset maker to incorporate additional functionality, leading to these flaws.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Need some help in zeroing down on a phone in <15K budget for my dad. He is currently using Redmi 9 Power for the past 3 years. His usage is pretty normal. No gaming, no big multi-tasking stuff. A good camera is required.

While the phone is good in almost all regards, there is a problem that he is facing for the past 2-3 weeks - As soon as a call is connected, the screen goes off. Even when we take the phone away from our ear, the display doesn't turn on automatically. We have to click on the fingerprint sensor to turn the display on. The same problem happens when a notification comes in as well - the display doesn't turn on.
This is a relatively new problem and is irritating my dad very much.

I did some googling and looks like this problem is occurs on Mi phones and is non-fixable.

Coming back to the topic of zeroing down on phones, I've brought my list down to the following phones

1. Moto G64
2. Samsung M34 (there are also A34, F34 - and I honestly don't see much of difference - am I missing something here??)
3. Samsung M15

Moto has stock UI. But, very less user reviews makes me think a bit.

Samsung - The bloatwares. I have always had the mindset that Samsung gets old pretty quickly. Is it still the same or has there been any improvement?

Are there any other phones that I can look at.

Thanks in advance!

Moto G64 is on Dimensity 6nm chip. It is recently launched with Android 14.
Moto phones, specially the G series are perfect for rugged and everyday use. Clean UI and come with no bloatware. It has a 6 mah battery. What more can be asked for.

There is also a G85 coming up albeit at a higher price. But totally worth it. It is basically an upgrade from G82/G84 and has a 4nm chip from Snapdragon.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello,

Does the S21 FE (Snapdragon 888) version make sense over S23 FE currently? Reason for preferring S21FE is the processor (Snapdragon) over Exynos in S23 FE. Our thread (Snapdragon Vs Exynos processor | Your choice?) also leans towards Snapdragon

Usage is WhatsApp, OTT Content (YouTube, Netflix etc), banking applications & wallets, reading articles online and a good camera for occasional photography. No graphic intensive gaming except for some light games like Minesweeper or Sudoku.

Had initially started with S23 FE as the candidate but then while looking online and in showrooms saw A55 also and then S21 FE got thrown in the mix via YouTube . Given that S21 FE will get Android updates till 16 (currently at 14), per this article and the processor am leaning towards it.

Currently am getting S21 FE 8/256 for 33K and S23 FE 8/256 for 39,899/-.

Is there a strong case to be made to spend the extra 7K /- for S23 FE over S21 FE? Anything that one may miss out on if going with S21 FE?

I have not used any financial applications on my mobile devices so far and was wondering how important it is to have the latest Android OS and security updates? 3 years down the line when S21 FE does not get OS upgrades, does that make the phone less secure for financial applications?

TIA,
S

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Guys,
Wanted to know if we can go back to previous Android Version after an OS update? Since i previously had Android 14 OS on my Poco M4 Pro 5G phone, now after update, the Andoid version is showing as "13 TP1A.220624.014". Is the OS degraded from 14 to 13 version? If yes, can i rollback to previous version? Also, I had never created a backup.

Thanks,
Ramki

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I ask this question every year, hoping there will be some new phone that meets what I'm looking for

Is there a small Android smart phone available? The size of the iPhone SE, or even smaller. I have an old Samsung S7 and I really want a smaller phone that I can carry comfortably around in my pocket. I also really don't want to switch to an Apple phone! So hoping there is something from Samsung or Google that is smaller than the movie-screens that people currently carry around! (Not the Samsung folding ones either, seem way too expensive and flimsy.) Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 measures 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm (5.61 x 2.74 x 0.31 in) and weighs 152 grams, so for a similarly sized phone in 2024, The Samsung S24 should be your best bet on the Android side of things (at least in India), it measures 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm (5.79 x 2.78 x 0.30 in). It weighs just 168 grams, so it isn't too big either (at 6.1 inches in display size, it's just an inch bigger, but sans the bezels of the S7, so it should ideally be the right size.

I would advise you to go to a nearby Vijay Sales or similar electronics outlet and try out the phones yourself.

For me the Samsung Galaxy S24/25 seemed very compact and small. And then Xiaomi 14.
