Pixel A series phones are compact! Do check out.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Anything smaller in the Android world? Comparable to the iPhone SE? That's the ideal size I'm looking for. If not, I guess it's the SE, though I'd like to stay on Android.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Galaxy S24 after 3 months, it has been an extremely pleasant experience. Have an iPhone 15 in the family. But everyone prefers pictures taken in S24. The Only AI feature you may use is circle and search( really don't know why this feature is called AI).

I feel S24 series is built more solid than earlier ones. My earlier S series phones were plagued by issues of back panel coming off and buttons falling off. S24 buttons look sturdier so far.

Please disable the fast and super fast charging in your phones. This can lead to considerable heating up and cause the glue to soften, leading to back glass coming off.

I have an old Samsung S7 and I really want a smaller phone that I can carry comfortably around in my pocket. I also really don't want to switch to an Apple phone! So hoping there is something from Samsung or Google that is smaller than the movie-screens that people currently carry around! (Not the Samsung folding ones either, seem way too expensive and flimsy.) Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Your old Samsung S7 Dimensions: 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm
The current Samsung S24 Dimensions: 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm

so for less than 5mm which is less than half a centimetre, I don't think that size would be an issue.

Current Apple iPhone SE is a NO NO as it's too old.

Pixel 'a' Series should be bought in US, not here. Old ones had some network issues and repairing them is a pain in the

The only Short comings I see is 4000 mAh battery and Exynos processor. How has been your experience with battery ?

Guys, do you think Wireless charging is deal breaker ? I want my next phone to be wireless charging.

Also any idea if some one buys Samsung S24 Ultra from Dubai (Wireless charging, 5000 mAh battery , Snapdragon and 7 years update , which meets my next phone requirements ) , will it work in India, smoothly ?

In India S24 Ultra is 1.15 Lakhs and Dubai its 65 K .

I guess the warranty is valid in India if the purchase is from authorized stores or play store. I got it confirmed from google support before purchasing the Pixel 7 Pro from the US.

I am OK with battery life. 1 full day on wifi and 5G/4G around 4-5 hours screen time. I am not a gamer or heavy user. So I am normally getting 2 days battery. Android auto can drain the battery at around 10% per hour.

S series has wireless charging for ages. What is your concern here? This is a fancy feature. Once the novelty wears off, one hardly uses wireless charging. May be useful when you are in a car.
As I mentioned if you subject the phone to too much heat, the black glass can come off. Wireless charging can heat up your phone.

The S23 Ultra I bought from Samsung Store in Dubai is working without any issues in India. The only item I miss is call recording, which is not supported in Dubai models.

The price difference you have mentioned seems to be from independent shops in dubai market. The price difference I got (from samsung store)
was around 30k.

I tried wireless charging in my car on long drives, but stopped it as phone was getting very hot.

You can also get VAT refund (5% minus some minor admin fees) from dubai airport on a tourist visa if the retailer has registered for VAT refund.

I could get VAT refund at the airport counter by showing the phone (make sure you keep it in your cabin baggage), passport/ boarding pass, and the invoice with VAT refund sticker.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

This thread on Android Phones sure has a lot of Samsung and MI fans. While both of these companies have some very good phones in their range, I am surprised to see that a very small percentage of people here on the thread have have purchased a pixel or said any good/bad things about the pixel phones.
I am myself using a Nokia 8.1 from the last 6 and 1/2 years which is running on stock android and still going strong / excellent for my usage,(calls, WhatsApp, maps and photos) a replacement (not original) battery 6 months ago killed my urge for an upgrade!! but eventually, I might HAVE to go in for a new phone in the coming months.
The only strong contender that in my opinion are the pixel phones, the reviews on the internet do give the phone a very good rating, but I am surprised that it is not popular among members of this forum.

The "S" series of Samsung surely does have good reviews , but their AI is too meddlesome - especially in processing the images.

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-tirupathi_2.jpg

A couple of images from my Nokia 8.1 with Gcam installed (images during my recent trip to Tirumala) is making me lean towards the pixels.

Any feedback on the pixels ? (Pixel-8) or any really good alternative?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Two things put me off pixel phones. One is the price, just because I find it hard to move higher than the 20k point I have reached. Two is that the official seller is Flipkart, and I am just not keen on buying from them.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hello All

I’m contemplating getting the S24 ultra from US but am confused whether warranty will be honoured in India. Price diff is huge, $1100 (84-85k) vs INR1.18L in India. Can anyone pls clarify on the subject?

This phone is for my dad who’s 74 and has always been on Android; I’m also wondering whether to get the iPhone 15pro for him and be done with it, so advice here is also helpful. He generally uses for WhatsApp, YouTube, emails, reviewing medical reports etc. that’s all his use of the phone is.

Cheers

I have been a Pixel user since the Nexus days. Had the orginal Nexus, then a Pixel 4a and now a Pixel 7 pro.

My wife has been using Samsung Galaxy phones starting Galaxy S3, then moving on to Galaxy 7, Note 10 and now using a S22.

Well the pro models are mostly on par with Galaxy ones. Pixels have the best photos along with Galaxy and iPhones. The hardware may be lacking in comparision to the other two but the software more than makes up for that.

The processors when compared to Galaxy phones are usually inferior to the Galaxy phones but the software optimization more than makes up for it.

I have noticed that the day-to-day performance of Pixels mostly stay same while the Galxy tphones degrade slightly over a period of 3-4 years.

Gaming is an altogther different story with not only Galaxy and iPhones but even cheaper ones beating them by a good margin.

The issue I beleive is the optimization of software and hardware together. Apple is a master of it and Samsung has caught up well.

Moto, Nokia and other phones which have cleaner Andriods will have something or the other missing when compared to Pixels or Galaxy.

For the best experience better to go with the top end Galaxy or Pixel phones.

Pixel 8 series too falls short of the iPhones Galaxies of the world. Though its a good phone no doubt, but somehow Google hasn't yet mastered the art of putting a phone togther which gives the experiecne of ultimate flagship experience. There is always a chink or two in their armour. Would be better to wait for the Pixel 9 series as it will have more options and the prices of 8 would drop as well.

I have beleived the price that Samasung or Apple charge for their flagships are not worth. Samsung sells atleast at 30-40% premium and Apple at 50% premium. Pixel too has joined the bandwagon since Pixel 7 series while falling short of giving the flagship experience the other two give.

I waited for the right price and bought the Pixel 7 pro for around 55 K while exchanging a Nokia 8.1(which was way past it sell by date for 3.2 K).

I dont play games on mobile and for everything else it either matches or beats Galaxy. And Galaxy beats it on the overall premium experienc
