The possible suspect to me is the transfer of media from the external 4 GB memory card. I think I shall skip it this time and give it a shot. I'll keep it to just phone memory <--> phone memory transfer.
So, I re-tried switching the data from A31 to S23 yesterday and same issue yet again! The transfer got stuck at 22% something at images / videos with just 5 – 6 photos / videos left for the transfer to complete. This time I didn’t select the data from the external memory card of the A31 and it was only phone to phone memory ; yet the error persists.

I seriously don’t know what the heck is wrong with these 2 phones. I finally gave up and de-selected the images / videos options and continued with the rest which finally completed the switch in under 15 mins. However, majority of the photos / videos did get transferred during the previous attempt , baring those 5 – 6 whatever were left out.

Interestingly, the smart switch automatically switches the display to ‘dark mode’ during the transfer.

So with the smart switch thingy completed , I tried the send / receive option via Play store to transfer the apps which failed too. Not even a single app got transferred. I went ahead to install all the apps manually later.

So far, the initial impressions aren’t quite great with this messed up data switching right at the beginning and that I had to 'factory reset' the phone even before using it. Never had a good experience with Samsung phones in the past , and sadly nothing has changed even today. Anyway , since this phone will be used by my wife , she’s okay with it and quite happy , so far. The jump from A31 to S23 is quite significant.

The phone came with an updated software out-of-the-box i.e. Android 14 and One UI 6.0. There’s also a security update that came in after setting it up.

Overall , quite fluid phone with loads of customization options. The camera is good , though I couldn’t test it outdoors ; the indoor pics with a decent lightening are okish. They have quite a detail and when I happened to check the photo information , all the pics i.e. from wide , ultra-wide , telephoto & even selfies are 12 MP resolution. 50 MP option is only available for the main camera , which needs to be selected separately.

You have 4G version or 5G version of A52?

Android 14 update was launched for 5G version only. There are some rumours that for 4G version Russian region update was launched late Dec/early Jan but that was withdrawn due to bugs.

Till now there's no concrete information on the update for A52 4G version.

I think any corporate email ID works, which you can use to sign up for the Corporate store. I recently purchased Buds 2 pro from the store and these are my observations:

1: Samsung Shop app sometimes has extra coupons resulting in a better deal than website.

2: While price is definitely better than normal Samsung store, the big sales in Amazon & Flipkart offer steeper discounts. However when discounts are not running, Corporate account may give a better deal.

Take my recent Buds 2 Pro purchase for example. It normally retails for 12-14K without discount. It went for 6.5Kish during last BBD sale. However when I had requirement to get one, no sale was going on and best deal I got was 9K in Amazon / Flipkart. However on Corporate store it was available for 8.2K.

Glad to hear that you finally made it to the other side. I wasn't kidding when I said that it took me more than an hour of intense work to set up the phone the way I wanted it. This S23 is definitely not as user-friendly to set up as any of my previous Motos were, especially when switching from an older or non-Samsung phone.

That said, I've been using it for a month now, and I've grown to absolutely love the compact size, the smoothness and the ease of one-handed operations. Even with a small battery, it holds charge pretty okayish. With 2 5G SIM cards, WiFi and WiFi calling on all the time, and with at least two hours of watching videos/using Firefox and one hour of VLC+Google Maps on Android Auto every single day, it goes from 85% to about 25% in 16 hours, even if I never recharge even once during the day. That's good enough for me, since I anyways plug in my phone in my car and during work.

Agreed. The corporate website gave me around 6k of discount on the S23 , 256 GB ; which translates to approx. 8 - 9% considering the current retail price on regular store.

Amazon and FK are giving good discounts too ; but currently it isn't matching the corporate site.

But as you rightly pointed out , it's the BBD type sales where you can cash in the maximum possible discounts. Having said that , there weren't any tempting discounts on the Samsung flagships this year. It was quite surprising though that the iPhones were offering much better discounts than the Samsung phones.

I think finally it all boils down to what product you are looking at. Accessories like speakers , headphones , etc. do have very tempting offers.

Well , I checked with the Samsung shop app CC , the 'welcome vouchers' are only credited if the 1st time login is via their 'shop app' and not the website.

Damn! tell me about it! Not sure if you're talking about customizing the set-up process , but for me it was just a 'simple' transfer process like I would do for an iPhone , wherein just a QR code scan is all that is required to literally mirror my old iPhone to new. It's THAT simple a process for the iPhones. But , it's a hell lot of frustration and work to set-up a Samsung phone (Idk about other androids now).

Who would believe it took me 2 days and nearly 4 - 5 hours cumulatively to set up the S23 ; ultimately skipping / loosing on some data in the end.

Agree on the form factor , and this was the primary reason to pick this phone! My wifey is just loving this phone.

It's such a powerhouse and gives you ~ 80-85% of the capabilities of the bigger S23 Ultra for nearly 60% of the price. Some of my wifey's colleagues mistook it for the S24, LOL.

Well, the battery is one area I'm a little skeptical about. After using it for a day my wife isn't quite happy with the battery life of the S23 v/s the older A31.
I have restricted the charging to 85% in the settings and if the phone is charged in the morning at ~ 9 am , it drops to nearly 20% by say 5 pm or so.
She isn't a heavy user per se and primarily the phone is used for WA , Insta and calls during the day (at work).

The phone is not plugged in the car (no android-auto) or to the laptop.

Maybe it is too early to comment on the battery and it might need some time for the phone to learn the usage pattern as is it being highlighted under the 'battery settings'.

P. S.: And did I mention that the Lavender colour looks great , primarily in a transparent case.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I really like this app called ACCUBATTERY. After a few charge/discharge sessions, it gives you the battery health like an iPhone:

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-screenshot_20240226_155658_accubattery.jpg

It tells you which apps are battery efficient and which ones are not. Most apps consume 18 to 25% battery per hour (on my phone). Whatsapp seems to be quite battery efficient.

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-screenshot_20240226_155619_accubattery.jpg

Costs just Rs. 95 (to unlock all features. But most data is available in the free version):

UI 6.0 (Android 14) for A52 4G India (SM-A525F) was released yesterday. It's showing in Software Update section after clicking on 'Check for Updates'. I haven't installed it and would wait for around a month for feedback on stability/ performance.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Samsung S23 256 GB variant is available for ~ 53K through their corporate app (after 10K HDFC card discount + 1K voucher discount). There is also a free adapter for for few days. Is it a good deal?

It's a great deal considering the bundled charger which costs 935/- additional on the corporate site.

You can save further with the HDFC CC EMI hack. Check my below post for the comparison.

Samsung Corporate Site offer Comparison (Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods)

Tip: Be sure to login via the Samsung 'Shop App' using your corporate id and not the website. Else , the 1k voucher won't be credited.

Indeed. I installed the same on 27/02 evening on my A52 4G. So far, no glitches. Fingers crossed.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Moto G84 5G, Android 13...

Yesterday I needed to read a PDF. First time on this new phone. The phone showed a pop-up with Google Drive as the default app, and the usual always or this time only choice. Alternative apps are below a line.

I don't know if there is a good reason to use Google Drive to read a local PDF, but I couldn't think of one. I found a simple PDF reader on the Play Store and installed it.

So, I try reading a PDF. Google Drive is suggested "this time or always." I select my chosen app. It opens immediately. There is no opportunity to decide always. And the same thing now happens very time.

I hate this Microsoftian nonsense that makes simple stuff hard to do or find because stuff has been changed. Google is the new Microsoft. Maybe Motorola, in this instance, because, from what I can tell from the net, defining a default app should be almost as simple in 13 as it was previously.

Android Gurus, any answers? And please include the possibility that I am being stupid and missing the obvious .

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys,
My requirement is for a small sized phone (under 6 inches). Don't see a lot of options so evaluating the Samsung s10e (brand new, not refurbished). Any thoughts on me considering a model that was launched back in 2019? Online reviews showcase the s10e still being worth a buy in 2024 but looking for feedback.

Any budget phones under 30k that fit this size requirement (max 6.1 inches).

I checked my Edge 20 running Android 13. A single tap on the app name highlights the app and waits for you to make a selection. See screenshot. A double tap opens the file using the tapped app.

Are you doing single tap or double tap?

Nice to have a phone that small/

I have installed Nova Launcher, and set the phone up to look and feel much like home! Everything seems fine, other than my non-familiarity from jumping four versions of Android (My tablet is 9. My old phone was actually 8, so that would be five versions).

I have no yardstick to judge it against other modern devices. All I know is it is nice that it runs all day without charging, and everything is smooth and responsive. They say that the charging is slow: to me, compared with my other devices, it is amazingly fast! And, as it is a new generation of charging technology for me, it is nice that there was a charger in the box.

I'm happy that there is 256Gb onboard. I'm glad that there is a memory-card slot too, but I now don't need it and will get a second sim instead. Another bonus is that rare thing the 3.5mm audio socket!

The only problem is that, as I have mentioned in another post, it seems to be incompatible with my new hearing aids. They have a known-compatibility list. I should have checked: I forgot. So I might not be keeping this phone that long. I'll see how it works out.

Wifey uses the S10 (not S10e) on a daily basis. It suffices her needs while using the typical apps - communication apps, Social Media apps, taxi-hailing, payments etc.

Considering both 10 & 10e have same processors, don't think there would be any difference in performance.

Only issue I see is how long you intend to use it and for what purpose -
1. Sometimes the app developers stop support for older Android versions and then that specific app becomes unusable. You can check the apps you use and how far back they provide support to evaluate your use case
2. Also the price - if the phone is closer to 30k as compared to 20k, would be better to buy a newer car, sorry phone, which will be more economical when you turn it in.
