Any idea if I can use this HDFC CC EMI-hack with the corporate website?

I have done a rough 'discount' calculations for the S23 , 256 GB and seems like one can get it under 50k if we can club both.

Others who have used the corporate website may help to clear the doubt too.

Note: I don't think one can avail a 'referral code' on Samsung Corporate site.

Yes, it is possible. As long as the merchant offers a no-cost EMI you are free to cancel it and save the upfront interest discount.

For the S23 I bought on the corporate portal, I did take the 12 month no cost EMI option but the interest savings by pre closing was only ~3k, hence opted not to pre close this time.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Does anyone have a Nothing Phone(2)?

My take on it is that its a VFM (in it's price bracket) phone by a company who's CEO, Carl Pei, is experienced in the field of mobile innovation (being the previous CEO of OnePlus).
It has some quirky features such as the Glyph interface( bunch of leds on the back that react to music, notifications and calls, etc.) and the transparent back just like other Nothing devices as well as the clean, stock Android OS with some tweaks.

Note- This take was given after having the phone(2) for 5-6 months and I am in no capacity affiliated with Nothing.

Cheers,
TSI

Managed to order the S23 , 256 GB in Lavender yesterday via the Samsung Corporate Website (using a friend's corporate ID).

I somehow goofed up on the registration process and missed out on the INR 1,000/- 'welcome voucher'. I think I tried to register using my friend's phone number instead of the corporate email ID. However, I couldn't find any option to register using the corporate ID ; it was a simple OTP process, and I was directed to their website for the purchase.
Any idea if I can still avail this?

Also, the site doesn't accept the Samsung 'referral code' stating the reason as - REFERRAL CODE CANNOT BE USED FOR B2B PURCHASE. So another INR 3,000/- gone!

I opted for the No - Cost EMI Option of 12 Months and hoping that I'll see the option for my HDFC CC to pre-close the loan and cash in the discounts.
An amount of INR 49,998/- is currently blocked on the CC which will be converted to EMI's.

I have ordered the following accessories from Amazon -
1. Samsung Original 25W Single Port, Type-C Fast Charger - 1299/-
2. Sprig Tempered Glass - 399/-
3. Amozo Ultra Hybrid Clear Transparent Case - 299/-

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Samsung has released the Android 14 update for A52 device on first week of January. But for some reason, am unable to get that update on air, on my device. I connected with samsung customer care, and they ask me to go to their service center.

Is there any work arounds to get the update, without visiting service center?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys, I picked up a Samsung S24 for around 69.9K the other day. The use case was for a phone which would be my daily driver to replace the S21 Ultra (which has given excellent service actually). A compact factor would be a plus.
My wife needed an upgrade from her ancient relic called Asus M1 Pro Max . The store guys looked at the phone in wonder, actually praising it for its build quality (still looks new) but were not willing to offer a dime for a trade. I have an old iPhone 11 Pro which my wife then decided to switch over to since she's never been on Apple devices.
Meanwhile I was mulling over various options, OnePlus 12, Pixel 8 Pro, iPhone 15/Pro/Max etc. and then realized I had a weird conundrum to solve: my Samsung Galaxy 5 watch would have some compatibility issues with other Android OEMs and zero compatibility with iPhone. It is too new to be discarded just like that.
So I chose the least expensive flagship i.e. the S24, while wifey got what she wanted.

But the choice was ultimately a matter of getting the proverbial horse to fit the horse shoe, in colloquial Marathi.

So the phone got delivered on Sunday and I tried to set it up using the Samsung's native 'smart switch' option via the USB cable.

The transfer was between Samsung A31 to S23. All went well until it came to transfer of images & videos where it got stuck at 80% and with just 5 pics / videos remaining to be transferred. The total estimated time of transfer was some 30 mins for 61 Gb ; but the moment it reached at 80% transfer it got stuck & remained at that for almost an hour.

During this time, it drained the battery from 40% to 10% after which I 'stopped' the transfer which took me back to the content selection for the transfer. I repeated the exercise , selected what I wanted and re-initiated the transfer. But this time it got stuck at 90%! Again , it didn't progress an inch from there on.

Idk , what exactly is the issue here. Surprisingly both are Samsung branded phones and yet such compatibility issues.

My suspect is that the A31 has a 4 GB memory card whose data too is being selected for the transfer ; maybe that is causing this issue? Should I skip the data from the memory card and maybe transfer it separately ?

For now, I have done a factory reset of the S23 as I didn't want a cluttered data in the new phone. I would prefer to start from scratch. I shall re-initiate the transfer today; hopefully it goes through.

The last time I personally used a Samsung phone was in 2014 , the S3 ; and it amazes me how they still have a long way to go to match the 'smoothness' and the 'ease of useability' of iPhones. Sigh!

This only gives me a reason to stick to iPhones for my next purchase.

Requesting your kind inputs on the issue I mentioned above.

Dont you use google photos to backup? Why not just install photos app and then download from the cloud?

I moved from S10Plus to S23 Ultra (Oct 2023), transferred everything except WhatsApp using smartswitch wirelessly and it went super smooth, no issues. Also, many apps which I was worried of losing data, were all there like S10Plus. Apps got installed after transfer. Only Banking and UPI apps needed verification/re-login. Sideloaded apps didn't get installed, but I didn't bother much as I'm not using them now.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Interestingly I used the Smart Switch to transfer my apps and data from my S21 Ultra to S24 .The only issue was Whatsapp chat, which should have been simple enough through the QR based transfer but it got in a loop with each phone not recognizing the other while entering the PIN. So I did the old school Google backup and then restored it on the new phone.

Nope. Actually , this phone is for my wife, and she isn't into this phones / gadgets stuff. So, this back-up / cloud storage is Greek for her. Sadly , everything is on the phone memory. I know it's risky and I'm making her aware about all this. But , for now it has to start from somewhere.

Infact, I chose the 'wired' way based on the advice of fellow BHPians. I even skipped the apps and chose to install them afresh from the play store. But ironically it got stuck during the media transfer itself.

The possible suspect to me is the transfer of media from the external 4 GB memory card. I think I shall skip it this time and give it a shot. I'll keep it to just phone memory <--> phone memory transfer.

I prefer to do it the 'google drive' way. Will do the same this time too , once the switch thingy goes through.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

There's a cheeky little Oneplus 12R scam, not sure how many here have heard of it.

In the launch event of the Oneplus 12R, they had announced that the storage on the base variant would be UFS 3.1 while on the higher variant it will be UFS 4.0.

Someone decided to test the read/write speeds on both the variants and found them to be similar. After that test came to light, Oneplus actually admitted that the storage type on the higher variant of the 12R was indeed UFS 3.1 and not UFS 4.0!

It's just astonishing how major brands can just lie through their teeth to hype up their products.

Read on Reddit that One Plus customer support is trying to make up for this and even offering refunds to owners. Don't own one so can't say how true it is.

The refund request will be entertained only if you purchased the higher storage variant in the first sale.

The reasoning given is that after Oneplus's admission (which came before the second sale started), any units purchased would obvioisly be with the correct knowledge of the storage type.
