Nope 9300 is a completely different model from the 8520/8530. The 9300 is their mid model phone with the 85xx is the entry level.

Yes, I know that. I was just trying to explain in layman's terms! Another key difference between 85xx and 9300 is that the latter is on OS 6, whereas 85xx will not get that OS version.

The 9300 is the replacement of the 8900 Javelin. But it looks more like a 8520 replacement. The 8900 felt more premium.

I don't think the 8520 replacement is in the pipeline so my guess is the model will remain alive but drop down to below 10k mark to compete with cheaper qwerty phones from Nokia.

Well, I recently bought a 8520 for Rs. 11,500 from Mobile Store. Hope this further doesn't decrease. Else, there would be no much difference left between a BB and a Non BB.

That, and also to lure the young college kids. BB Lite @ 199 was a step towards that direction.

Anyone plays Texas Hold'em 2 poker online on their BBs. I started today and was a lot of fun. Can imagine office becoming fairly interesting.

Hey, I tried playing that on my BB, but couldn't figure out how to play - maybe because I've never played poker in real life.

How do you play that?

Cheers,
R_S

PS: Sorry for the OT. :-)

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

The 8530 is a cdma phone and so they have UMTS the CDMA equivalent of 3G. The 9300 is supposed to be a stepping stone phone until they bring out the new series listed earlier. Basically its a plug the gap phone so that BB can get their act together for OS6 as the 8520 and 8530 don't technically support OS6 (for whatever unfathomable reason) also the 9300 and CDMA 9330 (not available here) are a jump ahead in build quality close to the 8900 but based along the lines of the outgoing 8520.

Blackberry decided to jump ship and move up its game considering the deep penetration iphone/pad and android have managed in a short span. Which is why RIM have not extensively gone through OS5. The idea with OS6 was to add a whole load of touch support and new apps plus be the pathbreaker for the Tablet/Playbook.

As for the service & special offers scheme yes it is true they are having it. Also vodafone subscribers can buy the handset 8520 for about 11 and the 9300 for about 15. Also they have an offer of 2 months rental of prepaid at 401 and 6 month at 26xx. The 6 month rental will also give you BB goodies worth 3k or so.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Hey guys, I am planning to sell my Bold 9000 and want to upgrade to another BB.
The current options are either the Bold 3 9780 (or something) or the Torch. Price wise the Torch seems far fetched, though i loved the phone. Any other options available?

Any idea how much would the Bold go for? Its been used for almost a year now.

Your buyback price will be terrible. If you can get even 10k it will be great.

The Torch is not such a good phone IMO. Since you already have the Bold, stick to the Bold and get the Bold 3. The best phone from blacberry yet.
