Internet access through blackberry is free if activated on the monthly unlimited plan, but it is still chargeable if browsing is through "vodafone live".Please do check on that setting.

Thats aggressive pricing. RIM is showing it's commitment to the India market more and more. The recent BBM update even supports Hindi text !

What they need is a mass market model priced around Rs.6500 to capture the market.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Finally picked up a bb cdma 9650, after a lot of deliberation and thought and friendly advice from Nandish. Was actually gifted a curve 8900 by my wife but couldn't use it as I have a reliance Cdma connection. Now need to sell off the curve 8900.
Thanks Nandish for the wonderful shopping experience and patience you gave me at your shop, highly recommended to all bhpians looking to buy blackberry's.

I think the BB Messenger uses data whenever you are online .Try uninstalling the BBM for a while to see if this problem still exists.

BBM will not work with Data turned off. This seems to be some other problem. Check the sent items of the SMS Mailbox if there have been any messages sent.

i guess u are a little confused here. INR 9500 is the price for BB 8520 and 9300 3G is retailing for about INR 14k.

@h@r$h@l

you are correct. I realised this mistake but could not edit as there was a problem in the net connection.
In Croma this fone (9300 3G) is retailing at approx Rs. 14500 .

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Has anyone been able to get the Blackberry Protect App installed ? The BB app store says it is not supported by my carrier, I'm on Vodafone 599 BB unlimited plan.

That mistake might just be true. Check out this link: http://crackberry.com/koodo-blackber...00-no-contract

Once 8520 stocks are exhausted, RIM India will have to bring down the 9300 pricing to the same level to counter the grey market that will start picking up phones from sources likes the above.

Just downloaded and installed Protect.

Sahil - are you searching for the app on your PC or BB? If BB, check whether you have the BB App World ver 2.1.1.2 installed. Also, it should be India specific (i.e. prices for apps should be displayed in INR).

I'm also on Vodafone BIS 599 UL plan.

P.S. A very weird thing in Protect - it will back up all the data on your BB, except media files (understandable) and BBM contacts (why not??)
