But I seriously hope they have enough inventory to meet the initial surge and they keep the waiting periods as low as 2 months max.

I remember reading about a second Toyota plant in Bidadi. Is it functional? Anyone knows the capacity of this plant?

The second plant is fully functional with 2 shifts of production running everyday, 6 days a week. The annual capacity of the plant currently is about 80,000 units. This is being ramped up to 150,000 by this year end.

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

In a press release issued this afternoon, TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) announced the launch of the Etios Liva takes place on the 27th of this month. The Liva’s launch was deferred from April to June due to the heavy demand for the sedan.

Sandeep Singh, DMD Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor -
We have delivered more than 20,000 Etios cars as on date. We have successfully reduced the waiting period to less than 1 month by undertaking necessary steps to increase the production. We look forward to a good response for the Etios Liva.
Since its entry into India with the Qualis in the early 2000′s, Toyota has not sold any products in the hatchback space. To brighten things up and gain traction, Toyota will have “a slew of youthful and fun filled activities” in the Liva’s marketing campaign.

Like the Etios, the Liva will have a TV ad campaign containing tunes composed by the Mozart of Madras AR Rahman.

Toyota had taken the concept version of the Liva, unveiled at last year’s Auto Expo on a yatra around India. The Q World program exposed the vehicles to over 1 lakh potential buyers, Toyota notes.

The Liva will be powered by a 1.2-liter DOHC 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 80 bhp power and 104 Nm torque, and is assumed to be available in J, G, V and VX variants, the same as the Etios.

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Pricing will be key issue of Liva success, as most comparable hatches barring Figo start around 4.5L for mid level models. If Liva can crack the 4L barrier, it would be a runaway success. I hope the noise insulation is now improved.

OT: How come no organization is opposing Mozart of 'Madras' when it is Chennai for a long time now?

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Was just thinking about this. Since Liva is also built to cost, why couldn't they price it cheaper than 4L? [Not that I will buy it anyway, just curious]. I have been seeing the ads for Beat P starting at 3.55L onwards. I don't think Beat P is a car built to cost. So if they can afford to price it at 3.55L, can the Liva also be brought down to that price? If there is a version with just A/C & not PS even, can this be achieved?

Also I guess Toyota would not bother much about the "brand value" for this car since they designed this to be cheap. A car at 3.5L or even 3.75L can stir the market a whole lot from Beat, Wagon R, Ritz, Swift, i10 etc right ?

Or my thoughts are way off from what the manufacturers think?

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Toyota has bench marked the market leader Swift in this segment, however price wise they can position the bare basic car by removing the AC & PS at a very attractive price point.
I have heard that the waiting period has reduced as lot of customers have cancelled there Etios booking due to low quality feel of the car, one the other hand the supply side has improved considerabily.
I am a bit disappointed as there are no changes to the interiors and dashboard layout. The mileage figure of 18.3 kmpl seems to be quite decent.

Well, IAB says this about the Liva -

The Etios Liva will be presented in four variants (J, G, V and VX), with the top-end model having features such as Dual SRS Airbags, ABS, EBD, Immobilizer, Keyless Entry, steering-mounted audio controls, dual tone interiors, leather wrapped steering wheel, alloy wheels and chrome inserts on the grill and door handles.

All variants of the Liva will have a 45 liter fuel tank, 251 liters of luggage volume, disc brakes at the front and drum at the rear and 5-speed manual transmission. Two higher-end variants have 15 inch wheels while the basic variants have 14 inchers.

The J variant is not expected to have power steering, body colored fitments, audio system or even assist grips for passengers. The starter could priced at well under four lakh rupees.

Etios Liva will be available in 7 colors – Vermillion Red, Celestial Black, Serene Bluish Silver, White, Symphony Silver, Harmony Beige and Ultramarine Blue.

Seems they have removed the link. I am in for a petrol hatch and hope this improves the discounts from Maruti (Ritz), Hyundai (i10) and Fiat (Punto). When is the Team-BHP review coming??
