re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Found a good picture comparison of the Dacia - old interiors - Duster vs the Yeti.

Forum Dacia • Leggi argomento - Dacia Duster vs Skoda Yeti

And here are some close up pics of the Renault Duster - new interiors

Very right! Also factor in the very low weight of 1,200kg as compared to the 1400kg+ for Yeti, 1700kg+ for Scorpio and 1900kg+ for Safari.

In the dry, the 85 bhp Duster 4x2 should be quite capable and certainly satisfy the amateur or weekend off-roader. As for the enthusiasts, they will need 4x4, LSD and the rest

How many of us thinks that the govt will go ahead with proposed tax on diesel vehicles. and what are possibility of it being slapped before duster launch. if its slapped before duster launch it may be wise to get a yeti now?

If I were in the market now I would buy quickly. As it is I did so in Dec and saved a bit of money since the price increased when the budget came out. But now that the Duster is two weeks away, I would wait and see it and TD it before deciding.

From your post, the two major reasons for not going with the Duster are:

1. Fit, finish and quality of the Yeti
2. Price overlap with the Yeti

Both counts agreed. What if one has such a strong dislike towards the Yeti, that it overrules both the above reasons? Essentially, if the Duster turns out that disappointing a product, I'd rather buy a Scorpio AT and be done with it, than buy a Yeti. I already own one temperamental European car, and would rather avoid another one (unless it is as basic and functional as a Duster).

Agreed, again. But the Yeti just doesn't appeal to me. I cannot think of one thing I like about it. That is just my personal opinion. No offence meant to fans, owners or the good folks working hard behind it.

Sweet pics. More and more excited as we inch closer to launch. A peculiarity though... MH 02 AK ?? That series is from late 2004 - early 2005.

Looking at the pictures 1100D has captured - I dont think Renault are going to price the Duster anything below 10 lacs.

if this the case, then you should completely drop it from the consideration set. I understand, because I feel the same about most Korean cars and most exec sedans that you throw at me with the exception of the Europeans. Your Scorpio will be an excellent working car as long as you arent asked to drive it too much, because its ergonomics and bumpiness are terrible. That way the bare bones Duster may do well for you because bring Euro derived and uprated a bit, it is bound to be nucer in terms of ergonomics, dynamics, handling and comfort.

Another point to note about the registration plates were, they appeared to have originated from the same source ( font, size colour etc.) whereas the registration is from entirely different states.

On a different note was just thinking, since already Renault has resorted to badge-swapping (Dacia to Renault) would it not have been better to have rebadged it a Nissan? Or maybe the Juke is coming too.

Point taken Flying Spur! To each his own brand preference and I completely respect your choice.
I just hope that Renault prices the Duster well and is able to meet the aspirations of the all the people keenly waiting for it and does not end up dashing everyone's hopes like it has done with the Koleos and the Fluence. IMO if Renault price it in the 7-9 Lac range, there will be a huge number of takers for it and it will see good success. But on the other side, something tells me that it is wishful thinking and it would practically be in the range of 9-11 lacs for the diesel and would land up something close to 11-13 on road and god forbid if the diesel tax also gets slapped on, 13-15 on road, which frankly for the Duster will not be good value for money.

Incidentally, a Yeti with AT is also planned for Quarter 3 launch (this is what I read on the Yeti thread from another user) but would definitely be an L&K variant and would be around 18-19 ex-showroom.

Regards,
Behemoth

Im sure the L&K will have blue tooth and other fiddlies. Maybe the skoda boys will allow us regular Yeti owners to enable bluetooth.
Hope so anyway!

re: Renault (including Duster Unveil) @ Auto Expo 2012 - EDIT: Now launched at 7.19 Lacs

Came across a video of Duster being tested for high speed maneuvering.
Video: Dacia Duster subjected to vigorous testing | Car Advice
With the stability control off, it is not bale to keep up in the line and almost rolls over. But with the stability control on, it maintains the composure.

I am also a little counfused here. Could it be that the AK series was used for MH 04 in 2004-2005 period? My car is "MH 04 CD" and registered in 2005 and now a days I am seeing a lot of "MH 02 CD" registrations (brand new cars).

Interesting video!!!. They did push the car to try and roll it over. Duster seems to handle such situations very well. For us this translates into good stability when taking curves at high speed.
