Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

They have not even included an immobilizer in the base 14L variant.
Even base models of 4-5L range cars have immobilizer.

At the local Calcutta dealer, Topsel Toyota.

So, this friend of mine who checked it out, has already owned both the generations of the Corolla sold in India till date. He plans on replacing his current Altis with the new Corolla asap. The car should again live up to the comfort and reliability its previous generations have offered.

We have also booked two diesel top models for the office.
Expecting delivery in the first lot in May end.
Shall post some pictures then.

I really feel this Corolla will not do as well as the previous one. The interior is really poor for a car its price IMHO and doesn't compliment the rather well designed exterior. The 1.4 Diesel was never appreciated in the previous generation car and they continue with the same .

Not at all. The interior quality is decent.
The diesel variant would make for a perfect chauffeur driven car.

The Petrol 1.8 is nice to drive though.
Add to that, the unmatched Toyota Reliability.

Can a Skoda or a VW run a lakh or two kms without any major problems? Nope.
A lakh kms is peanuts for a Toyota.

I fully agree with you. The 1.4 L D-4D engine will perform well and would cater the needs without much fuss. Since Corolla is mostly chauffeur driven the owner will not be much bothered how fiery performance dies the car belt out. Main point would be comfort which the Toyota does well without doubt.

I did like the Altis though, wish dad had not bought the Ertiga and looked at something in D-Segment.

Also, the 1.4 D-4D isn't as bad to drive as the power figures suggest. I use a diesel Altis when I go home to Kerala, and its really driveable, even in the city. Now I'm not saying its a scorcher or anything, but its decent. One of the most stable cars I've driven. And for its target audience, like my grandfather, its all they really want.

The Renault Fluence facelift and the Elantra diesel will give a run for it's money to the Altis. The diesel Altis going by forum reviews is not as reliable as the Petrol.

This new up coming Altis has no rear AC vents which is shocking for chauffeur driven. The Elantra and Fluence both get dual zone climate control, rear AC vents, 4 airbags (fluence), 6 airbags (Elantra), ESP and other goodies. Elantra has front ventilated seats as well.

Looking at the above and knowing that the K9K in the Fluence is reliable as well as Hyundai's very good after sales, I cannot think of one reason to for a 88bhp 1.4L Toyota at 20 lakhs. The Toyota brand is not that strong to pull me towards an inferior product in every way.

With the earlier Altis it was different as it was cheaper than the Skoda and VW by a fair bit and had way more features than the Civic.

Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

There's a PDF by an Indonesian designer. The next Innova for now is called the "Kijang Essential." Uses the same IMV platform, slightly longer, powered by the same 2KD-FTV diesel, but with a VGT(low version Fortuner sells with this engine in SE-Asian market.)

The engine:
Bore/stroke remain unaltered.
produces peak power of 142 hp at 3600 rpm
and torque of 343 Nm from 1400-3400 rpm.

If the dynamics are similar to old Innova's, it'g going to make VW(jetta), Skoda(octavia), Hyundai(elentra), Chevy(cruze) sweat with the value proposition it will offer.

Praying for a 6 speed manual with tall 5th and 6th ratios.

A lakh kilometers for any well maintained, modern car is not a big deal nowadays - be it Maruti or VW. Also, is Toyota's bullet-proof reliability worth a 100% premium? The reason I compare 10 lakh cars with a 20 lakh Corolla is because the features are on par.

The 2016 Toyota Hilux, which shares the platform with Fortuner has been spied undergoing testing in Australia and Thailand this week.

We can probably expect the new Toyota Fortuner in mid-2015 in India.

Any and every Toyota product in India is downright a cage of steel on 4 wheels when compared to the competition in terms of features specially Hyundai. It will be only a matter of time to see if people are swayed by that factor towards Hyundai. I don't think Fluence is a real threat to Altis since Renault as a brand has no presence in the luxury sedan segment.

BTW altis diesel is not reliable?

Re: Launch of new Corolla & Innova by Mid-2015?

Toyota and Ford are running a close fight to vie for the title of the manufacturer who kicked itself in the *utt and got thrown out of India.

My vote till recently was on Ford, but Toyota sprang up a surprise by pulling out the 2014 Altis from the hat.

People are already getting swayed towards Hyundai, the sales numbers of the Elantra are proof of that fact.

Remember this segment is very small so even if the Fluence takes 50-100 away from Toyota, it will matter.

Ps: My post said the Altis diesel is not as reliable as the petrol not that the Altis diesel is unreliable. There are posts of excessive oil comsumption and maintenance costs being more than the Petrol. Ofcourse this will be lower than Fluence and even Elantra.

Couldn't agree more with you. Toyota is loosing out to Hyundai not only in the D-segment but also the hatchback segment.

Altis is having a hard time by the Elantra.

Liva is getting it from the Verna,

Etios Liva is getting it from Grand i10.

I guess the UV and SUV segment is where Toyota is enjoying.

In the D-Segment 5-10 customer's will matter. 50-100 cars is a big number. Toyota needs to do something to keep the numbers will them.

The 2KD FTV on the innova already features a VGT, its actually due for a replacement and this information that you have got is not from a reliable source in my opinion.
