Congratulations.. Once your car arrives at dealer's stockyard, is that when they would share the VIN with you? Or can it be done sooner once the vehicle has been shipped from plant to the dealer?

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

My colleague is in market to buy his new ride for a while now and planning to replace his aging Santro with a new petrol car within 10L budget.

We got into discussion few months back when I suggested him to have a look at Zest. After taking a test drive he came out all impressed with turbocharged Revotron, space and overall quality VFM Zest offers, and almost decided to go ahead with Tata. But alas! Tata's fate played it's part and he was advised by his parents to stay away from Tata. Apparently for no reason!
They advised him to buy Maruti, Hyundai or Honda. He didn't like Dzire, Xcent and Amaze for their lack of space, quirky looks, cheap interiors and light build. He was not ready to go for not so grand - i10, pricey i20 either.

Then again we had a discussion. I said wait for Jazz and Aspire.

When he took a TD of Jazz, though he liked the car's looks and space; he was disappointed by lack of "premium-ness" of cabin despite being charged 8.7L OTR for petrol top end. His wife didn't like Jazz.

He took a TD of Aspire thrice till date. He liked it very much. And finally decided to drop it. Reason? This time his BIL said it has less boot space and doesn't look that premium from inside!

I was asking him to go for Ecosport 1L ecoboost though it crossed his budget. He was sold on Ecosport.
This time again his wife didn't like Ecosport's cabin plastic quality and said if you wanna buy SUV then why not proper SUV like Scorpio!

He hasn't booked any car yet.

This is what shows in India how many factors play in deciding which car to buy!

I am no sure if the dealer can share VIN number once it is out for delivery from the manufacturing plant, however I had asked once it arrived yesterday evening at the dealer stockyard to see the car physically as a part of per-registration check.

There is something called as Conviction!!

The car buying process is a complex one but you need to stand by your convictions in the first place and be very sure of what exactly you want.

Changing stand and dropping a vehicle on the behest of "others" thoughts may not be the best way to end up buying.

Parents way no Tata hence no Tata.
BIL says no Aspire hence no Aspire.
Wifey say no Jazz and hence no Jazz.

In all this, where is your friend's voice?

Pls. ask him to stick to his beliefs, do a thorough TD and stick to his lan.

There is no perfect car and pros and cons will be there in all.

All the cars shortlisted have their strengths and weaknesses.
Ask him to select the one which best suits his needs.

All the best!!

Its OT but interesting. Someone shifting his position from Zest to Scorpio, via i10/20 & ecoboost, in my view is not in real need of a new car. The person most probably is happy with whatever he has.

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Spotted a silver Aspire on road. Must say looks smashing, has great road presence. None of the current CS can match the aspire, be it interms of style, feature list or from mechanical front. Only sad part is Ford isn't marketing the product well.

Agreed to your points! But "conviction" would be there for petrolheads like you and me. I was trying to highlight what a non-enthusiast or a person who thinks car as just another stuff on the planet; go through.

I really do not understand the difference between 10 sarees my wife shows to me when she is shopping I feel they all are the same. But she will ask me how it looks for each saree. In the process by judgement I select one and she buys that. In turn she is happy that everyone liked the saree.

In same way this guy liked Jazz/Aspire/Zest/Ecosport but considers everyone's opinion and want to buy the car, everyone likes.

Sorry I am giving lame examples though

Ford's domestic sales jumped 22.5% in August'15 as per this article due to arrival of Figo Aspire, awaiting Team-BHP post on Aug'15 sales to find out if this is really true!

It is more interesting to note combined domestic wholesales and exports in August 2015 for Ford India stood at 21,520 vehicles. This is 53% more compared to the month last year.

LINK to the article.

Cheers!

And surprising and probably the first in the history of TeamBHP that I can remember - we don't have an official review post even after a week of launch.
Please, post that soon.

Not really, I was in the market looking for a caaar. Tried i20/active/creta/verna, scala/duster/lodgy, aspire/ecosport, amaze/city/mobilio, scross/ciaz/dezire/ertiga, Vento, Xylo/quanto/scorpio, linea, sunny (out of memory :-)). Criteria was to get a spacious car and I have been talking about only cars for the past 3 months. I brainstorm the choice with my family, friends to get opinion. Every time you get a comment, you look out for a better option and cannot just decide by heart.

Not lame at all. I had been thru this, fully understandable. For god's sake, 10 Lakhs is not a small money by any means, getting a depreciating item at that price be damn good for him and his family. I wish him good luck and let his purchase please all including himself.

Ford India's domestic sales is around 8300. Going by previous data, Ecosport should be anywhere around 3K, which means Ford would have sold approximately 4.5-5K aspire.

Dear Stepup

Completely agree with the saree point as most of us have gone through such numerous "look how do I look" moments.

Something like a saree/dress or even a mobile which can be purchased with some loose change is acceptable.

Here, we are looking at a major buying decision, and it is correct to involve and listen to people around. Yet, at the same time, the final decision should be with your friend with at the max, intervention/inputs from wifey!!

In most cases than not, wifey's role is limited to the choice of colour, muhurat date etc while the technical specifications and features(other than vanity mirror in the co passenger's side) is left to the man.

Think of it this way- The couple decides on the model and brand. Stick to it with conviction and buy it once the mind is made.

Will give you my example. When I came to Mumbai, my first car was a Fiat Uno. I bought this 2000 model in 2010.

No one would have touched it with a barge pole. Paid just Rs. 50K.
Used it extensively for 6 months and 18K kms later, sold it to a Kerelite for 55K.
  • I was convinced that this car would help me understand the driving pattern in Mumbai(Mind you, I had over 70K kms and 10 years of experience behind me by then. I learnt driving at 15. Dont kill me for this though!!)
  • I was convinced that for the amount I am paying, Uno is my best bet.
  • I was convinced that I will use this car for a short duration and dispose.
End of the day, this "belief" paid off for me.

As I again stated, stick to what your friend wants and believe me, his trust will repay him suitably.

All the cars specified are very good and will serve him for years to come.
