A weird and almost impossible possibility, in fact a hope against hope: what if the official launch is being delayed because they are about to launch the 5 speed Auto tranny alongside!! If wishes were horses . I,for sure, will become a TATA fan for life.
Only an auto transmission can swing my family's decision in Storme's favour.

Re: Scoop: Updated Tata Safari Storme in the offing? EDIT: Now launched

Is there any difference between the music system of the ex and Vx? Can the parking sensors be installed in the ex with output into the display of the music system? Does it have Bluetooth? I know it doesn't have steering mounted controls.

As per the website, both the EX and VX get "Integrated CONNECTNEXT music system by HarmanTM with controls on steering wheel".

So Bluetooth connectivity and Steering mounted controls are present in the EX variant.

Re: Scoop: Updated Tata Safari Storme in the offing? EDIT: Now launched

Tata could have done better with variants:

http://safari.tatamotors.com/storme/...specifications

Between EX & VX there are only 3-4 differences:
- driver & passenger airbags
- alloy wheels
- reverse sensors / camera
- heated ORVM

If not for airbags not many will go for VX especially with 1.5L price diff. Also airbags being only on the highest variant does not look good when many manufacturers are going in for airbags & abs standard on all variants.

Their comparison sheet on the same webpage is funny to say the least. With no additional feature compared to competitor they are comparing "all black" interiors, fuel tank capacity.

They need many die-hard safari fans to cross 3 digit sales in an year.

The old gen EXs have the heated ORVMs. The VXs have auto folding ORVMs as an extra.

Also missing are the leather seats which the first lot old gen Stormes had. Those were really nice (around 45K was the price of those alone in the after market).

I agree. Except for the air bags, there is really nothing the VX has which cannot be retrofitted to equal specs and quality after market on the EX much cheaper.

With new pricing - I think Safari Storme now seems to be bit more value for money, otherwise when compared to the likes of Duster, it was seeming tad expensive.

It would have been great if the rear wheel on the trunk can be reintroduced!

PS - Is the old Dicor model still on sale? or they have discontinued it this time!

The old Dicor is still on sale but you can only get it in either the LX or the EX trims. Goes without saying that there are no 4x4 options in either of those trims.

Why would you compare it with a Duster?

The price looks exactly same as the old Storme pricing so with the feature cuts like rear disc/ABS in the Lx, the Lx is definetly not VFM. So what exactly are you referring to in terms of more VFM ?

From a pricing perspective the Duster 110ps might overlap with the Storme but the buyer profile is different. So no pt comparing with the Duster.

This "rear wheel on the trunk" thingie has been discussed to death now !

What Tata Motors have done is cut the LX price by almost 45000 Rs by cutting this out. Serves two purpose

1. Starting price comes below the psychological 10L mark. More of a marketing gimmick really.

2. Reduces excise duty - thus bringing down the on-road price significantly. I distinctly remember, how everyone cribbed that Tata Motors was not being practical and not keeping the price below the 10L mark to help reduce the excise duties. They have precisely done that, albeit by cutting of some of the more important attributes.

All 4 discs and ABS was one of THE USPs of the Storme when it was first launched.

Removing it to save 45000 bucks is really foolish in my book.

Some bean counter in Tata must have reasoned, by doing this we can make inroads into the Taxi segment where anyways the drivers drive with the needle stuck on 100 (max 110-120) to get the maximum mileage. So why the need for better brakes?

Also the 3rd row is anyways going to be used for luggage. So why not remove the two name sake seats there altogether and make it a proper 5 seater and reap the dividends there as well.

Not too fussed about that. You can always gets jump seats retrofitted along with the rails. Though your vehicle would be registered as a 5 seater, and the move thus be illegal.

But the brakes bit was really not very bright.
