Also, the Creta has Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) from it's SX variant onwards (SX, SX+ & SX(O)), if we go by the "leaks" so far. Of course, the full variant-wise feature list will only be official by 21st July.

This is the major reason why I don't buy these comparos (nor post the same) made by websites who are not fully aware of all/most features provided across car models. Best to get the official brochures and check out the cars in person to have a better understanding of all features/comforts on offer.
My bad! Didn't expect Autocar to make such as mistake. So it still loses out on the other features I mentioned I suppose?

So variant to variant, if the S-Cross is priced lower or even at par, it makes it better VFM, at least IMO.

Will wait for reviews for both the cars before conclusion though.

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

That comparison is completely useless without the price. What if S-Cross Alpha is priced same as Creta SX (or S+) ?

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Saw some reviews on the S cross (odmag, autocar and zigwheels), almost all the reviewers are not happy with the JK tyres. Seems it has impacted the handling of the car as well. Eagerly waiting for TBHP official review now !

As per overdrive
" The JK Tyre Elanzo-NXT rubber is more of an on and off-road tyre. The contact section is more square than circular while the tyre blocks and grooves are quite large and deep."
Thats probably the reason why the tyres squeal on tarmac.

Which could mean that this tyres would be stone magnets.

Look at the picture and I can see 3 medium size one trapped. Should create a havoc while qin motion.

So the best option would be sell off the JK tyres at the dealer level and replace it with something like a Michelin Primacy set of 4 / Bridgestone Potenza for an additional 15-20 k.

Read a lot of reviews about the S Cross. Having booked a vehicle, its a long wait for now, even before taking a TD of the car. Reviews are not very positive except for the engine. One auto journo boss has even asked to pray for the s cross.

That's a Sante-Fe.

Alongside the Creta & Aspire launch fan fare, the S-Cross and it's pre-launch activities are boring to say the least.

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

That picture is pretty much the case/mindset the media believes everytime a challenger to a Maruti product is launched.

For ex. The Amaze was supposed to dent the Dzire and then came the Xcent, then the Zest. The Dzire is still selling in the market as if nothing has changed.

Both set of cars (Creta and S-Cross) have a lot going for it individually. In the end, it up to the consumers to choose what they want. Pricing also is a key factor here and may affect the Pseudo-crosses along with the Premium hatchbacks as well.

So definitely a lot to consider and see how it materializes in the coming weeks.

True. But at the same time this is more this is more the case with established models of Maruti (Dzire etc.). Maruti has had its set of failures in SX4, A-Star, Estillo. For Maruti to be successful VFM is the key and their USP of all bestsellers- premium pricing may not work for them Nexa dealerships or not.

well.
Agree completely.

Everytime a product came to compete with maruti, they predicted maruti's end. Nothing happened.

In earlier cases, these 'enthusiasts' were shouting on the roof for more powerful engines. This time maruti silenced them with a master stroke.

All the aggressives and enthusiasts are loud enough that only their sound is heard. But the truth is something different.

Don't you think that companies launching a challenger would research better and come up with a better product? Every iteration of a product is supposed to improve it and it is the case with every new launch as well. But Maruti was able to hold its fort all this while.

I am not saying it will be the same with S-Cross as well but except for the height of the car, the S-Cross isn't down on any of the competitors from the segment. Even then, the headroom inside the car hasn't been affected.

As the romeomidhun has mentioned, the lack of a powerful diesel was a fly in the ointment for sometime for Maruti and even that has been taken care of. So all that remains is the pricing which hasn't been announced for Creta nor the S-Cross officially to determine the success/failure of the models.

One complaint from my end is that Maruti should take the Automatic segment more seriously. AMT is good but there should be good offerings for the conventional Automatic seekers as well. A 6 speed Auto with even the 1.3 DDiS will do wonder for the Ciaz/S-Cross IMHO.

+1. I also believe that a petrol engine option as well as an AWD model should have been made available from day 1. I guess they restrained from launching an AWD or automatic variant to keep the product pricing in desirable range for advertisement purposes.

I'd like to humbly differ. Going by media reviews - print, online and visual - there are many things that are indeed going for the S-Crosss, most prominent being the engine options, interior space, build quality and driving dynamics.

On the flip side, the alloys, tyres, front grille could have definitely been better chosen and designed. Having said that, I really feel that the exterior design of the S-Cross is slowly settling down in the minds (and hearts) of people. I still remember the early days of the Swift, when its uncanny resemblance to the "frog" was a source of constant humour

My take is that MS is clearly looking at creating the VFM X-over segment, distinct from the premium hatch and mini SUV segments, for both of which they have prespects in the offing.

On how successful they will be is only for time to tell.

NDTV review of S Cross - nothing different from other review - reconfirms its plus points-interior space, build quality and driving dynamics.
