The Irony is calling the Ladder frame vehicle a crossover and the Monocoque one SUV.

Harrier 5 and 7 seater are crossovers whatever we may wish to call it.

Yes it is from the perspective of some one who understands the technology. But does the majority of customers care/know what's underneath? More often than not, the decision process for buying a smartphone and car are the same!

Hence it would not be the best decision to miss out on AWD on their flagship SUVs

Tata reveals more of Harrier,

Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs-har.jpg

Quote:
Tata Motors claims the Harrier's body movements over broken road conditions will be under control due to optimised torsional and bending stiffness. Also, thanks to the D8 platform, the SUV is likely to benefit from the driving dynamics attributed to Land Rovers as it will have a similar floorpan, steering gear, and an all-independent suspension. Some of the aluminium bits, however, will be replaced by more affordable steel parts to keep costs in check.

The Harrier promises a quiet cabin due to the use of auxiliary isolation panels. Moreover, it will have efficiently designed crumple zones and see the extensive use of high strength steel to offer a higher level of safety.

Any idea if the 5 seater and 7 seater versions have the same body? The one above already seem to have the space sufficient for the third row.

Shows that they do have confidence in their product.
Could include exports.

Otherwise selling close to 6000 units per month is almost impossible in that segment, unless they plan on undercutting even the Creta in terms of pricing.

Aria platform was first revealed in 2010, with the redesigned Hexa first unveiled in 2015. Doubt if it would have any place in the modern TATA showroom.

I have always felt that Generation Next strategy devised by the ex-MD Karl Slym was set to unfold in two stages - one for immediate rework, and the next stage of products which are a generation apart. Zest, Bolt, Nexon and Hexa were part of the first strategy - and where all reworks based on existing platforms. Tiago, Tigor along with all the upcoming products are the next generation.

The 7 seater version of the Harrier should eventually replace Hexa, even though TATA may not do so at launch.

Looking at the screen grab from the video and the mule pics the two SUVs are almost identical till the waist level. The 7 seater has some more height towards the rear and the glass house is more expansive. Its almost like the difference between the original evoque and the disco sport.

I was happy with the alloys for a moment and soon noticed this model has only 4 lug nuts while the test vehicles have 5. There is no way TATA can make this with just 4. So this is just an indicative design and cannot be seen as more reveal in the true sense.

This clearly was the plan of action when Karl Slym was in charge. The immediate refresh of the products followed by new platforms. After Karl Slym I suspect there may have been slight rethinking. The failure of the Bolt and low numbers for the zest has sort of ensured that its only a matter of time before Tata completely moves into the second stage of the strategy. This was emphasised during the Expo with plan to focus on their new two platforms. Despite all this, The 7 seater will surely not replace the Hexa. It will target different buyers initially and eventually eat into the Hexa sales.

While that may be good for TATA , it will dilute JLR brand. Nexa approach is one they can think about. Separation of there commercial passenger vehicles and private vehicle make sense.

However, the Harrier Test mules have sported either steel wheels or a different set of Alloys and obviously a size or two larger too.

Assuming both the Swift & Harrier are parked very parallel, the Swift looks puny!! If it's really so, this thing will sweep off the floors 'just like that' by the SUV craze crowd - especially if priced close to Creta with comparable features.
