I feel that in order to make the floor flat, they had ended up making it bit high (almost like in a ladder frame based SUVs) in the first gen XUV 500. I personally hope that while maintaining the high ground clearance, they have lowered the floor a bit (this may have resulted in a bit of a floor hump.)

Is this confirmed? The flat floor makes the second row so much more comfortable for 3. It was one of the big advantages the XUV500 had over it's competition. Also great for carrying smaller bags or items which could easily be stowed behind the central armrest. Would be a shame if they went back to the hump.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

Saw the car in person today while I was returning from Kumbakonam. The driver was making good speeds and I wasn't able to catch the front portion of the vehicle. Took couple of pictures while I was at toll.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

My general automotive curiosity keenly awaits a first hand comparison between the Safari and the XUV 5OO.

Just one point - given the number of niggles one is seeing on the relatively less complex 2.0 Thar, I am wondering what kind of gremlins a significantly more complex XUV 5OO might throw up. It has a lot more electronics at its disposal (I dearly just like Gloster there is an absolute top of line variant with and without ADAS). I am sure there are those who categorically do not want ADAS but do not want to lose any other features.

If the Thar could actually generate a standalone thread on niggles the I am not optimistic that the 5OO will do better.

In any event, I wish both Tata and Mahindra the very best. They are providing genuinely great and decently priced alternatives to many other international brands and just for that reason I do hope their products only get better and in turn gain better acceptability.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

Hello bhpians.

Just confirmed from my sources in Mahindra that the SOP of the XUV500 is expected to begin by this month end or latest by April end. Mahindra is aiming to have a stock of around 6000 odd XUVs before launch so actual launch may take place by June-July this year.

The semiconductor shortage is the biggest worry for Mahindra which is delaying the launch. Also the instrument cluster and ADAS components are being sourced from China and South Korea is what was told to me.

Also the XUV is expected to score a 5 star rating in NCAP and Mahindra may get the certificate before the launch itself. This will surely be one of the trump cards of the XUV in its segment.

According to my sources, if this semiconductor shortage situation doesn't improve then the waiting list of the new XUV is expected to run into months just like the new Thar. Mahindra expects to sell around 3000 all new XUVs each month.

XUV500 interiors completely revealed in new spy shots:
Dashboard looks very premium and upmarket. The person driving the car said that it will be launched by Diwali.

Looking great, just couple of observations/opinion:
  • That plastic hood on top of the wide screen was not necessary and kind of looks like an afterthought. May be they want to cut the glare on the instrument cluster part of the screen but something smarter could have been done instead of placing that piece of plastic on the top.
  • Dark plastic on the top of the door trim gets really thin at one point and makes it look very weak (visually). Such things take away the perception of robustness (important for an SUV)
  • Car seem to be finally getting a proper tip-tronics for the manual override on the AT (instead of the weird button on the current car)
I keen to know when the bookings (formal or informal) would be open.

No Auto-Dimming IRVM in what looks like a rather loaded vehicle. I hope such cost-cutting trends don't make it to production models.

The interiors look really good and plush. I'm surprised though, that the IRVM is still a manual one and not an auto dimming unit. As the rest of the interior looks production spec, I hope Mahindra won't be skimping on such basic features.

THe interior design looks clean and upmarket with simple lines. . A total welcome shift from the busy/cluttered current XUV interior design. Hate the "hat" for the wide information/infotainment screen. They should definitely remove it from production in my opinion.

Waiting for some news on launch dates and some more good spy pics.

The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

That is a very premium looking interior. My observations are,

1. Center dashboard is wrapped by a nice white leather material.

2. Possible wireless charger in front of the gear selector.

3. Possible drive or terrain mode selector knob right below the gear selector.

4. Soft touch materials on the doorpad with nice looking aluminum like door handles.

5. Electronic parking brake atleast on this higher variant. I think lower variants will get manual handbrake and get rid of terrain mode selector.

Wish to have seen the other two rows of seating and boot space. So far it looks so good. I am only worried about the dual day time running lights. Hope it gels well.

Straight lines look good mostly and are timeless,
wish they had done that with DRLs also as they did with Center console design.

Looking at the number of blanks on the switch panel on the right, I don't think this is one of the top end trims. Definitely hoping mahindra will provide auto dimming IRVM on the top variants (I personally prefer the manual one though)

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

I see the XUV bringing some USPs to the table against Tata.

+NCAP ratings at launch.
+ Possible AWD at launch
+Perceivably more plush looking interiors
+Looks bigger (?)

Right now Tata having a free run with the unopposed Safari. Interesting to see how the battle pans out once this enters the fray.
