Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

To get over GNCAP effect, they may end up offering these events as accessories and not standard equipment on their lowest variant?

Hope this is not a final spec. No grab handle on the A pillar!!!

Or did Mahindra took that grab handle and install it on the D pillar?

This might be a dealer fitment optional extra at best. I remember pretty well that there is another 2+3+2 variant with arm rest in the middle row and forward facing 3rd row seats. Moreover side facing 3rd row will not fare well for GNCAP rating, the very reason no one got to see the Thar MX variants with side facing seats in the showroom. So I'm taking this with a pinch of salt.

This could be an early pre-production vehicle, when there were plans for side-facing seats, just like the Thar AX variants.
This could be the reason why the Scorpio-N has sideways opening rear door. They simply didn't bother to redesign it later as upward opening rear door.

Only tip is give advance to dealer near you to make the booking. Even if your online booking doesn't go through (due to website load/delays), theirs will, as it is on a different system.

Also if you are okay with losing 10% of deposit (about 2.1k considering xuv booking), book at multiple dealers. If you can, book at dealers in smaller cities. You can cancel the extra bookings once you have confirmed date from one.

This is how few of my friends did it Bangalore. I did it with one dealer for my XUV700 (gave him money 2 months before bookings began). My booking was on 7th Oct (first day) and my delivery is this week, after waiting for nearly 10 months from I made unofficial booking.

No, they did not.

The official unveil and first drives were around independence day with some details of the vehicle trickling through the weeks. Price was announced only few days before the bookings opened (on 7th Oct 2021). If you are sure you want to book, better get in line early. The risk is losing about 10% of the booking amount on cancellation.

Check the pic of front view. It has old Mahindra logo. That's the reason I think it is an older pre-production vehicle which may not make it to the final production variants.

Thanks. Yes, I am checking with dealers for pre-booking and also will try to ensure that they actually log it when the booking opens officially.

Anyone here got a confirmation that bookings will open on 06/27? Going by how it happened with XUV7OO, I am doubtful if they will accept formal bookings from Monday.

Mahindra has played around before, like the time they sponsored the six-seater Marazzo (with three-point belts for all seats so +1 point for child protection), then launched a seven-seater without. I understand the GNCAP's team is mostly busy with Latin NCAP but it's a problem if they fail to track production changes in India.

Earlier the problem with side-facing seats was that they could not safely accommodate any child seat available on the market, so zero stars for child protection like the Tsuru or Nano. That can be circumvented by having a forward-facing second row and a side-facing third row, because child seats are placed in the second row in NCAP tests.

But just this April the GNCAP added a clause to the updated protocols for July (now with front+side+pole impact+ESC+pedestrian) stating even the adult score will be zero for side-facing seats.

The only solution is to have ratings published under the old protocols, i.e. this month, so possibly coinciding with the launch. Otherwise Mahindra will have to either make some changes or they'll be in big trouble.

On another note, that seat looks like the accessory seat for the Renault Duster.

Check out the 5+2(jump seat) and 5+3(front facing) seater version of Scorpio. The 5+2 is more comfortable for 5 passengers which is the primary intent of the vehicle. This is not an Innova replacement but can double up as an MPV for short distances.

Side opening tailgate is best for utility vehicles and off-road wagons, specifically for Bolero and Scorpio they need to serve as escort vehicles , so jump seat and side hinge tailgate are a must have. I hope they offer the jump seats rather than try to please the NCAP fans.

As mentioned by @sks_Biker, key is to get in line early formally or informally. Keep talking to dealers for taking your KYC information as well as booking amount if they want to, so that they punch in your application as soon as booking opens. If you are really keen, I would suggest to visit and meet dealership Sales managers personally. Like everything else, in person connect goes a long way. I have done the same and they have promised that they will punch in my booking whenever the booking opens. Fingers crossed!

Adding my own thoughts in addition to tips posted by other members.

1. Mahindra will likely follow the same booking process as for XUV. For XUV700 “Add to cart” functionality went live on 2nd oct. Actual bookings opened 5 days later on 7th.
2. For some regions such as Mumbai, bookings were strictly online-only. Offline wasn’t allowed. The fact that the website crashed made customers push dealers to punch in bookings via their system.
3. Cause of all this fiasco I doubt Mahindra will repeat same mistake and should add adequate server capacity.

Booking:
1. Create 2 separate accounts on auto.mahindra.com
2. Add to cart your desired model from both accounts. Shortlist 2 different colors to increase chances as vehicles are manufactured in color batches.
3. Make sure while configuring the cart the dealer is different. Do some research on which area around you is relatively remote and likely to get lesser bookings and use that for 2nd booking.
4. Petrol variant should once again be delivered quickly, so if you want one fast, petrol is a good bet.
5. On day of booking open the website in 2-3 devices.
6. Have a friend/relative go to the nearest showroom in person at 10am as backup (in case website crashes again).
7. Try to use a payment method which doesn’t rely on OTP. An OTP delay can push your delivery back by several weeks. UPI is a good bet.

Never thought an item worth 15-20 Lakhs will be bought like grocery shopping and tatkal booking.

Mahindra salesmen are the luckiest lot on earth I guess, who have to do zero canvassing for their product. I wonder what that bandwidth is being re-purposed into. Probably to deal with booking status enquiries.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Apart from registering my interest in ScorpioN on Mahindra website, I had also filled in the enquiry form on the social media pages of 2 of the dealers here in Pune.
I received a call from one of the dealers today. The sales executive said that the SUV will be in showroom on 27th June to see. But he had no clue about the test-drives or the bookings. He said that I will be kept informed about the next steps as and when they come to know from Mahindra.
