2020 Hyundai i20 rear three quarters - IAB rendering.

After previewing the next-gen Hyundai i20 from the front a few months back, IAB's digital illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a new rendering to give a look at its rear-end now. The upcoming lifecycle makeover is expected to fully revamp the Hyundai i20's exterior design.

I also saw the same car on Faridabad-Gurugram Road on the morning of November 24, 2019. It was all camouflaged but I figured it was a Hyundai and most probably the new i20 as the car had Faridabad number plates and Hyundai's India Quality Centre is located here.

Car looked similar in proportions to the current gen i20. Attaching a few pictures taken by my wife.

It will be offered with three BS6 engines including the Venue’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol.

Its feature list is expected to include connected car tech, wireless charging, and sunroof.

will be offered with three BS6-compliant engines: two petrol and one diesel. It will get the Grand i10 Nios' 1.2-litre petrol unit that puts out 83PS and 113Nm. The second engine will be the Venue's 1.0-litre turbo-petrol likely in 120PS/173Nm tune. In the Venue, it is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission) gearbox. On the other hand, the new Elite i20 will get the Seltos’ 1.5-litre BS6-compliant diesel engine, although in a detuned state.

I have my suspicions. Sounds more like a marketing strategy to sell of left over i20s - 1. Surely they won't stop selling i20 from April till the new model arrives. 2. It doesn't make sense to bring in BS6 engines in the current one, if it is likely to see a model upgrade soon. 3. Clearly, they can't be making BS4 engines from Feb, lest they don't mind a pile up of unsold inventory.

This is sad news. Hyundai should have showcased the new i20 along with the other new models. Not to forget that this is a very important car for them. Damn, I was so eagerly waiting to see the next gen i20 for the expo.

I hope this is true. Infact, one of the main dealers here in Goa has stopped taking fresh order the for the current elite i20. Whatever stock available for December month is the last what he says.

The rear legroom might see a marginal increase in space. It will look good on paper, may not be noticeable practically.
Also, this is an all new generation car; not a facelift.

Next-gen Hyundai i20 design sketches revealed

Hyundai has released the first official design sketches of the next generation i20 hatchback.



The images suggest that the new i20 could get a dual-tone exterior with a black roof and dual-tone alloy wheels. It has a new front grille and sharper wraparound headlamps that have V-shaped LED daytime running lights. The front bumper has a slimmer air dam and triangular fog lamp pods. At the rear, the car has wraparound tail lamp clusters with Z-shaped brake lights. It has a dual-tone rear bumper with a small diffuser. The car also has chrome trim along the window line and a shark fin antenna.



The new i20 is expected to be offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines including a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol as well as a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

The next generation Hyundai i20 is rumoured to be launched in India around June 2020.

If they give the same 1.5 Diesel (without detuning it) as the Kia Seltos / Upcoming Creta then it should be a fun car to drive for sure.

Hope Hyundai launch the proper "N" version of this car in India and price it reasonably. If it can be manufactured here, it should be within 15L, considering (or expecting rather) they would plonk 1.6L TGDi (~200bhp) & 6 speed manual which may have to be imported. Wishful thinking

I wish somehow they could've retained the rear profile from the current iteration which is subtle yet sharp looking. The overdose of their new radical design language (rear profile & front grill) is quite evident in aura and other teased upcoming launches. Regardless the rumored 1.5l diesel unit will keep up my hopes high,
