Don't know what kind of Jimny will be launched here but it sure has rekindled my interest. I was considering Thar until now...

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

This is Maruti finally trying to take a small pie.

Lets see if they actually choose to launch the 3 door or it is just for testing. Even for launching a Halo product if Maruti cannot take the risk now, then we are permanently stuck with non aspirational products from them.

I strongly feel with the scale they have they will try to take advantage of the THAR wave. I am sure no one would want to miss the party when they have a ready made product and supply chain in place.

I am keen on buying the Thar as it is in stock, but I might pick the 3 door Jimny as well if it comes in Auto transmission with the full 4WD setup.

Jimmy does pull the heart strings even though I am yet to see it in person.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Thank God if Maruti is ultimately planning to launch Jimny 3 door in India. I am one of many persons who want to own one. But I wish if Maruti could launch it with 1.2 litre k series engine as it will qualify jimny for small car tax benefit. A smaller engine may make it little bit more fuel efficient too. All this I wish it doesnt hamper performance too much.
Moreover I want maruti to add few water bottle holders, as in review videos on youtube I didnt find any.
For smaller boot, I plan to add roof rack box as it will take care of my luggage space during off station trips.
Finger crossed they just launch it soon at an affordable price.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

To be honest, Thar's pricing was a letdown (even though widely considered exceptional) as it is mostly riding on the nostalgia wave. They have missed the train but haven't missed the show. A Jimny openly plying on the roads is proof that Thar has them scared. They should have tried to launch it around Thar's launch. Regardless, it'll make ripples whenever it is launched. It'll be the first acceptable MS vehicle in my eyes (after 800, GV and Kizashi). Only if they had done a better job in bringing it here, wouldn't have been trying to book an EcoSport. Seriously, though. Why the delays?

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

I sincerely hope they launch it as is. Without making any deletions or changes to the original car. Also not monkeying with the dimensions of the car or to the drivetrain.
Just the original Jimny as is.

The much awaited Jimny Sierra spied again - Now at night with LED lights! Extensive tests to continue with more sightings in the offing!

The Jimny is expected to be retailed through the company’s NEXA chain of premium car dealerships. Price is expected to be in the range from Rs.10-15 lakhs. Though not yet confirmed, the Jimny Sierra is also being planned as a 5 door variant. It will first arrive as 3 door next year, while the made in India 5 door Jimny will arrive by 2022/23.

In the videos, the pace seems to be brisk and the overall road presence defies what the dimensions otherwise suggest. Appetizers have started coming. Weather we will be able to enjoy it is a discussions for another day.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

I really wonder what the pricing strategy for the 5 door jimny would be.

The 3 door would be priced just under Thar which is logical given the jimny's size , which means the 5 door top spec jimny could be close to 16-18 L .

Oh! That's a BIG bummer if true! There are many here who wouldn't want an elongated 5 door Jimny. The 3 door is practical enough and that should be made available. The Jimny doesn't have the width to be made a limo and will look really awkward. And let's not even go into the reduced capability off-road.

I am afraid Maruti is going to do a Dzire with it and the following might happen with the 5 door. The boffins might remove the 4x4 hardware and make it front wheel drive as well. Later, they will release the 3 door 4x4 at a hefty premium and will cry the market is not there yet!! The watered down variants are released with a perceived value pricing and the market will lap them up. The variants which cater to the enthusiasts are then left gasping.

But they won't care, do they? These 'localized' contraptions add a lot to the bottom line!! We have seen it happen with the S Cross 1.6 and Baleno Boosterjet in the recent past. I really hope the new Thar has drilled some sense into those thick heads and history won't repeat!!

If the 3 door Jimny is testing without any clamoflauge, most likely this version will not be sold here. Sad but true.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Jimny can be a great offering with the increased lifestyle quotient especially in A towns. With disposable incomes higher for many youngsters, it can add that bling over the usual buys.

Between Thar and Jimny, guess price will play a huge role as Thar comes out as a more masculine vehicle as compared to Jimny (notwithstanding that Jimny is a very capable offroader).
Also, the issues with Thar will also be issues with Jimny, back seat ingress (3 door ofcourse), boot space. And with a much narrower profile, the shoulder room will be at best ok. Ofcourse, Jimny being an all metal body, getting roof racks will be easier.

I often feel Maruti management often fails to deliver when it comes to offbeat vehicles. Be it GV or any attempts to move away from mass market cars. Ignis was a good try to make a sportier, SUV'ish hatchback but it didn't fly to Maruti standards. So Jimny could very well be another sad story. And the worst story if they get the 5 door out and not the 3 door.

Would love to own the small beauty though but currently, the moolah is happily locked in Thar booking.

Unfortunately, this ACI report dated yesterday also indicates the same. Maruti doesn't seem to have the stomach for selling 3 door version here. They're too happy to be sitting in their comfort zones, so much to bear the tag of market leader.

The Suzuki Jimny Sierra has been spotted testing on Indian roads. However while the model seen testing here is the international-spec three-door version, for the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki will be launching a larger five-door derivative of the same. The carmaker had showcased the Jimny to the Indian public at the Auto Expo in February 2020.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The Jimny is quite a competent vehicle and we had loads of fun with it, (but really tiny and strictly a two-seater). Off track, but in an unfortunate incident my friend's car was swallowed up by rising water levels in the UAE floods

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The Jimny 3 door is too niche a product that will not be able to tick two of marutis most important priorities, volumes and value.

Being a lifestyle 3door model the Jimny is unlikely to generate volumes anywhere near what maruti deems profitable, and that creates the second problem. Lack of volumes push up prices and reduce the value proposition, a strict no no for any maruti product.

Another challenge is that the Jimny is a very small uv. Plus it barely scrapes through with 3 stars in ncap crash tests. For a niche lifestyle product that might end up costing well North of 10-12 lacs that might become an achilees heel in an evolving Indian Market. Small diminutive car which isn't 5star ncap, could become a tough sell after the initial enthusiasm.

Might as well launch an India only 5 door version with an attractive price tag. Going by marutis standards the Indian 5 door version might have a lower kerb weight than the global 3 door Jimny!
