Hope this thumbnail gives you a rough idea of how small the Jimny really is.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The Suzuki Jimny will lose its intrinsic character, if it loses its 2-door look. The Jimny has always been about individuality, not family responsibility. And when every other motor vehicle caters to the family, it will be refreshingly different to have an auto buddy that's all for freedom and escape.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Having travelled extensively in Ladakh and North Sikkim, it appears, Jimmy is the perfect vehicle to go there. Its compact dimensions are perfect for the narrow roads and tight parking places. Also, ride quality appears quite nimble and plush from the video. Probably, Jimmy would be my next vehicle in India.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Someone sent this spy pic of the new Jimny on my Instagram page-

Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?-122129466_370645127418603_3444040548550341286_n.jpg

Sender says these are from the Gurugram plant.
Tried to search the internet with the Google Image Searcher, seems genuine as I couldn't find any similar pics!

Judging by the rear window size, this looks like 3D version and not 5D?

5D for ref:

As far as Jimny is concerned, there is no 5 door one available as of now. This is a render already shared in one of the Jimny threads.

OK. I was curious because for India they were planning only 5D. Since that photo was from their plant, I thought this could be Indian market model.
The render looks rather original and real life though, than a CGI. Good job whoever did it.

The 5 door isn't getting into real life anytime before 2023!

Despite that, Autocar claims that the Jimny 3 door might be launched here by 2021!

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Not sure if this has been posted or if anyone has come across this bit.

My eyes kind of popped out upon reading this. Might be a mistake but it seemed to specific to be a typo or a mistake.
I can't even...

Quote:
The standard version of the mini 4x4 SUV will be powered by a 0.66-litre turbocharged, 3-cylinder petrol engine, while the Jimny Sierra will get a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder petrol motor that churns out 100 bhp. Both the engines are paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The new Suzuki Jimny will be offered with Suzuki’s Allgrip Pro 4x4 system for improved off-roading capabilities.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The standard version is the JDM one sold only in Japan. That comes with the 660 cc turbo petrol engine. All export markets get the Jimny Sierra with the 1.5 NA petrol engine.

Not a mistake. The 660cc motor is to comply with Japan's minicar rules - much like the 1.2L petrol engine limit followed by small car makers in India.

To qualify as a mini-car, it needs to also be within 3.4 meters in length and have engine size less than 660cc - hence the standard version for Japan and the Sierra version for international markets. The standard version is 3395mm whereas the Sierra is 3,480 mm.

FYI - Maruti Alto 800 is 3445 mm, and SPresso 'SUV' is 3565 mm.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The Indian variant when launched will mostly have a 1.2 petrol to take advantage of India's tax benefits. Plus as with most local suzuki products, the Indian model will be noticeably lighter than the international variant, so power to weight wouldn't be a big issue.

Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, Maruti Suzuk:

the company could soon finalize things about the small hardcore offroader.
The fact that it is conducting proper market research and has even started testing the vehicle in the country suggest that Thar could get another rival next year.
