Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

If the above specifications are true then the games on. The brochure too looks decent enough to be true.

And about the automatic 4x4s. We up here in the mountains are still skeptical about them.

My thoughts resonate with your post. In order for the Gurkha to make good sales they need to have an Automatic down the lane and a good engine. Wish if the 2.2L was on offer, I hope it does not feel underpowered and this is also more like a proper 5 seater.

@Aditya is right. This engine was always available in the Traveller Range. Given that they are selling the Gurkha as a lifestyle product, why would they not put a respectable state of tune in the Gurkha version of the 2.6. This is why I don't have much hope in this company.

AT in the Gurkha is hoping for too much. A good engine that makes about 125 bhp and 300 plus NM Torque itself is too much to ask of the company. AT, Forget it !!

The 2.2 came in limited models and hence Force Didn't want to invest the money upgrading the 2.2 to BS6. This engine is now a dead dodo. Tata made their 2.2 DICOR BS6 compliant and is now the mainstay in the pick up range. Don't know why Force couldn't upgrade a relatively more high tech Merc OM611 engine when Tata could upgrade their 2.2 DICOR to BS6.l

I have driven the 85bhp Gurkha and the good thing is that it has good bottom end Torque so driving it in the mountains was good. However, once you get on the highway it is a total slouch as it has zero top end. The earlier Thar CRDe 2.6 engine is way more balanced for hills/highways

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

If FORCE spend a little time in marketing this SUV, it will turn out to be a SCORPIO moment for FORCE. Thar got such a long pending order to deliver coupled with semi conductor issues and parts availability. But this looks screaming UTILITY all over, even looks like a 7 seater. Plastics and designs looks the best ever from FORCE, Best wishes.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

What Force Motors Needs for the Gurkha is:

1) The 2.2 liter engine in the 5 door Gurkha making 140 BHP and 320-340 NM torque

2) A 6 speed Torque converter automatic transmission with 4 wheel drive, lower versions can have 2 wheel drive.

3) Brilliant interiors with touch screen, cruise control, climate control and all the assorted jazz

4) 4 star safety rating with airbags and higher versions having 5-6 airbags.

5) 5 seater with 2 bucket sets in the front and bench behind with the last row being a boot.

6) A company fitted snorkel like they currently have

7) Dynamics which are sorted for on road high speed driving.

8) Price it around 11-13 lakhs ex showroom.

Take my money!

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

I think that the Force definitely need to up their game to even get respectable numbers. We see a lot of enthusiasm every time there are spy shots, but after that nothing happens.

The above pics of the brochure shows that the marketing department of force want to push it as a lifestyle vehicle, but is the 'Gurkha' ready for it or even the force motors ready for it? I guess (based on the specs available on web)the product development is still far away from what a common user or an enthusiast needs. You can't just provide an underpowered engine, a lacklustre interior and wafer-thin dealer network and think of it as a competitor of Thar.

In my opinion, Force motors knows it needs a huge effort(which they do not want to put ) to get decent monthly figures and that is the reason they keep on delaying its launch. Even with every test iteration, they are making this vehicle ugly. Somewhere my heart wants this vehicle to become a success, but my brain always says that they are not interested in selling it.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

We know that BS4 Gurkha retailed from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 13.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). If they are going to pitch it against Thar, then the pricing will be starting 12 lakhs onwards and since there are no details on the Automatic, I am thinking that it should stay under 15 lakhs for the top-end model. The Brochure seems to be only for the 3 Door, will the 5 Door be also launched and it does looks that the Gurkha is ready for unveiling.

I really don't get this. Why should 4WD be restricted to premium? Just give me a vehicle with 4WD and everything else basic, read standard. That's how it used to be once. There are many of us who respect the capability but indifferent to fancy. Four wheels are touching the ground, so I'd like them all be powered, thanks.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

I too don't get the desire of fancy frills in a 4wd. I do understand the need of basic comfort for sure. But steering mounted controls and everything. They are not used by 90% of the people most of the times. Most used being the cruise control button. Most 4wd are anyways customized by its owners as per their requirements and style.

It just a difference in the mental approach I feel. What lifestyle one is choosing it for, for it to be an urban crawler or a go over any terrain machine. Both choices being personal and right in their own space. You look a the gypsy, it had nothing even till 2019, but it was a cult goddess because it was no bullshit straight forward performance machine which wouldn't stop at anything. The creature comforts can be added aftermarket too, for which the 4wd should be highly customizable. Again which the gyspy was .

For example between gurkha and thar i think the approach into the back seats is much better in gurkha as you open the back door and people can walking into 2 bucket seats from there. It has more space than the thar and i would be more comfortable with a roofrack on the gurkha as it has a metal roof unlike the thar. Apart from that the deign which i know is a very personal and relative aspect, but I find it gurkha's defenderish design language way better than the wranglerish Thar.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

2 key winning components would be missed severely:
  • Rigid front axle
  • 2.2L Mercedes engine
A Rigid front axle is IMO KEY to being a blue blooded offroader. I don't know whom to blame, the market or Force Motors for switching to an IFS front axle.

Bringing the FM 2.2L CR engine was right step from the 2.6. I am sure some folks aren't surprised to see Force going backwards.

Hadn't it been for my recent 4X4, a 5 door Force Gurkha with the 2.2L engine and rigid front axles with diff locks would have been a no brainer purchase for me.

Re: Next-gen 2020 Force Gurkha spied

Dead on Arrival
2.6L Diesel with just 89Bhp in 2021.Force India needs a better management.
People expect more VFM product now. Force need to adapt the 2.2L with perfect tune to stay in the market.

Why do you think that rigid axle is key for a true offroader? The world has moved away from rigid axles and only a handful of offroaders still offer that if I remember correctly - Wrangler, Jimny, upcoming Ineos, Toyota 80 series. If the Toyotas, which see bad roads in under-developed countries day in and day out, still perform so well, why do we need rigid axles which will be used for some weekend offroading and spend most of the time on tarmac?
