Toyota has revealed the new 300-series generation of the Land Cruiser SUV.

Compared with the outgoing 200-series iteration, this new Land Cruiser is lighter, more powerful, and has a far more modern interior. It weighs a claimed 440 pounds less than its predecessor.



It is the first Land Cruiser model to make use of the new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. The platform will improve performance both on and off road, with “new benefits in terms of body rigidity, strength and dynamic balance.”





It has new engines including a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 with 409 hp and 650 Nm and a 3.3-liter turbodiesel V-6 with 305 hp and 700 Nm. A ten-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive are standard across the board.





Coming to exterior design the front end has a more prominent grille and a snazzier lighting setup, while the rear has new taillights and a reshaped tailgate.



The interior has been subjected to massive changes to accommodate a standard nine-inch infotainment or an optional 12.3-inch screen.



Other features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, and a head-up display. A powered tailgate will also be available, along with an electrically adjustable steering wheel, air ionizer, and even a fingerprint authentication system.



Toyota has fitted the next-gen Land Cruiser with a more advanced Multi-Terrain Select system, now featuring Deep Snow and Auto modes, while the Multi-Terrain Monitor system incorporates an underbody camera. A revised Crawl Control system maintains the vehicle's speed while you are off-roading.

Watched the premiere last night, a lot of time they spent on the reliability and discussing the shortcomings of the outgoing one. It took them 14 Years to know if they mount the shockers at a different angle The least they could have done was share the technical info and specifications simultaneously.

Interiors are a major step up from the past and the layout is even better than the current LX but not sure about the other aspects yet. From the video and earlier information, it appears there is no Air Suspension yet. Maybe it will come when the LX is ready.


For all those expecting to buy one in India, am not sure, if this is going to come anytime sooner. Traditionally, we have got the variants with air-suspension from LX , though Toyota does have a record of getting KDSS in 2015 right after the facelift. But this time, being a completely new model and the overall global demand, I don't think our limited market will be any priority.

12.3" ICE likely fixed on 2 screens, can be divided in 2 parts with of 7:3, JBL sound system, rear seat ventilation ( all seats independent temp. adjustment), control panel for back seats, rear entertainment system, USB ports, HDMI ports.

With off-road performance being key to the Land Cruiser name, the 300 Series boasts an all-new E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) and a better suspension geometry that improves wheel articulation.



The 300 Series will come fitted with a Multi-Terrain Monitor system that displays obstacles that are obscured from the driver’s viewpoint, Multi-Terrain Select automatic driving mode selection function, and the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) active safety package with additional functions.



These additional functions include an intersection pedestrian and vehicle detection system, an emergency steering and crash avoidance function, and a Parking Support Brake that helps drivers avoid blind-spot incidents when parking.

For India Toyota might rebadge the Wagon R and call it the LC 400 like Maruti put the 'Sting Ray' badge on it, which itself was car blasphemy.

Had a quick word with my dealer this morning. Apparently he's in contact with Toyota because he's already got a few serious enquiries (6 to 7 customers insisting he recieve a token amount). I was able to gather two important pieces of information,

A) The car is going to be launched here only next year. Specially because of the current chip shortage.

B) We will most likely get only the Petrol version. Diesel is highly unlikely.

This may not be 100% accurate but the most likely scenario. Coming to the pricing, it's still unknown.

Toyota and VFM pricing somehow never go hand in hand. In India I will not be surprised if this ends up competing GLS Maybach .

Meanwhile LC200 is flying off the shelf in Australia.

What the heck!!! Can't think of any reason why Toyota shouldn't launch the diesel here. There are only a few markets where they can sell the diesel, and they are not launching it in a market which loves big SUVs with diesels?

Lexus can be high and mighty with their no diesel approach, Toyota can't. Not when they depend on two models with almost 99% diesel sales.

Only plausible excuse could be the emissions. Except for Japan, none of the markets where it was showcased has stringent emission norms. But Toyota can't be that short-sighted to not launch euro6 versions of the engine. Something to do with the upcoming CAFE, RDE norms I guess.

I had a very similar thought at the beginning. But if you think about it, the Land Cruiser is a made-to-order, low volume product for Toyota, especially in India.

With them clearly not chasing volumes & prospective buyers in the 2cr OTR Segment not too conscious about fuel costs/mileage etc, i wouldn't be surprised if its petrol only.

However, lets wait & see. This is just the initial feedback from the CBU-section of this particular dealer.

My next building neighbor who owns a 2004 LandCruiser still daily drives his V8 with over 150,000 km on the clock. If Toyota has done a similar job to what they have been doing on some of the previous generation models, I'm hopeful that this one will be an amazing car. Personally, the interiors styling for me is a bit bland and feels like any other Toyota, the specialness is lost for me IMHO.

I am 100% confident that Toyota India can drastically increase the number of sales for the LandCruiser in India if they price it the right way for this generation.
