Keeping with Dickys trend of brand new cars only, and ones you can buy right now, this is my 3 car garage.

1. 2023 Kia Seltos GTX+ 1.5 Turbo DCT ~ 22 Lakh
Color- Silver or Gray

This has to be one of the best SUV's on sale today. 160 hp and a smooth, quick DCT. It has plenty of features like ADAS, 2 zone climate control, drive modes, paddle shifters etc.



2. 2023 Toyota Innova Crysta VX Manual 7 STR ~ 28 lakh
Color - Black or Pearl White

There is nothing wrong with having a Crysta in your garage, its the perfect highway cruiser. Its reliable, it has good mileage, and most important, it has space and comfort. I would only take this on highway trips. Hopefully, it has a 6 speed manual when I can buy it.



3. 2023 Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus 1.5 TSI Manual ~ 20 Lakh
Color - Black

This will be a fun car, with 150 hp and a manual. I really like the Virtus and a nice petrol manual in our garage. It can also be used in the city and short journeys. I would not need the Virtus if the Seltos would come with a normal MT, but it only has an IMT.



That is a total of 70 lakh, which leaves me about 30 lakh short.

An alternate garage would be

1. Mercedes GLA - 50 Lakh
2. Innova Crysta - 27 lakh
3. Taigun MT - 17 Lakh

This would be 94 lakh.

1. Hyundai Ioniq 5 - 48 Lakhs. Would take care of the luxury quotient and can be taken for long distances as well. Looks gorgeous and a brilliant product for its price.

2. Tata Safari Adventure Plus Dark AT - 29.5 Lakhs
For long highway trips / Family trips. Toyota Innova Hycross was the second option and probably a better one but the I just cant stop drooling over its Killer looks.

3. Tata Nexon EV MR Fearless Plus - 17.5 Lakhs
For city usage. Simple reason for chosing this car is that I own a Nexon EV(2022 model) and it is the perfect city car. Also the seating is comfortable as compared to the Long Range and 200 km on a single charge is good enough for city runs.

That leaves me with 5 lakhs and I would get a Triumph Speed 400 for 2.8 Lakhs and spend around 30k for setting up a 7.4KW AC charger at home and still be left with around 2 lakhs.

I would consider a good hatchback(EV) for option 3 under 20 Lakhs but there are no options available right now. Also, not going with Top models as I am not a big fan of too much electronics / sunroof in the car and would be happy with more than sufficient features in the car.

Personally I wouldn’t be inclined to create a three car ideal garage in under 1 crore but if I must - for the moot sake of this thread - here’s how I might do it:

1. An Innova Hybrid: practical workhorse with strong hybrid tech and captain’s chair comfort. [~38 lakh]

2. An as recent as affordable (<3 yrs maybe) used 3 series petrol (LWB preferably / SWB) as a fast performance sedan. The B48 is just one of the best 4 cylinder petrol engines available in the standard luxury segment. [~<45 lakh?]

3. A 3 door petrol Thar HT maybe as a lifestyle vehicle for maximum fun for (relatively) minimal money. [~18-20L]

1. A practical family car such as Camry or Innova hycross (as most family members prefer a sedate comfortable transport vs fast cornering)

2. Jimny AT (a car to reach remote places and double up as a city car, the latter is its USP that's often overlooked)

3. A less practical, just for kicks car or bike, depending on $$$ left: 2 door sports car from the likes of Mini/Z4/Boxster/...

#1 and #2 are great choices even if you have a lot more budget than 1cr. #3 is where budget can play a big role.

1. Ford Endeavour 3.2 facelift (with the sync 3 system) - the comfortable family long distance tourer.

2. Ford Figo 1.5 diesel - project car. Absolutely no concern about reliability or practicality with this. Trying out the craziest mods. Perhaps somethings no Figo owner has tried (cram a larger turbo?).

3. Tata Safari Storme - again a DIY project car. Total modernization and modification of this car. From led projectors, auto climate control, tail mounted spare wheel, dashboard revamp - new plastic moulds, remap, integrating Tatas new 10+ inch infotainment systems into it - not possible? Pretty sure some ₹₹ will make it possible.

I love cars and all things related to Automobiles.
I am grateful to be able to say that I have all the cars and types I need and want as of this moment.

So honestly, while there are plenty of dream cars out there, which I love, I think I will content myself as of now to creating the time-space and financial wherewithal to travel to different places over the next few years and rent and use different dream cars while there, of course these rented vehicle(s) will be ‘terrain-appropriate’.

As far as owning something in the reasonable future goes, since anyway this is the world of make-believe, I shall probably only look at a Kia EV6 or a Hyundai Ioniq5 plus a Jimny and keep the rest of the make-believe money for travel and car related experiences.

If I owned no cars and I acquired 1 Cr to fill my garage with 3 cars, this is how I would do it.
1. City usage- Tata Tiago EV(13L)
2. Touring/Soft Offroading- Mahindra ScorioN 4x4(31L)
3. My heavy right foot- Used 2017-19 BMW 330i(<40L)
Use the spare(16L) to kit the cars+performance mods on the bimmer.

Currently building my 3 car garage and acquired only one of the cars in the lineup, the total does not come out to be under a crore but if you go in the used market I believe you'll be able to secure it around a crore easily.

1. Audi S5 Sportback (Weekend Toy / Daily Morning drive to the Golf Club)

The only car out of the 3 I've acquired till now and loving it every last bit. I'm an early morning person and go to the sports club every morning on very good roads, been daily driving the car to the club which is around 24kms from my house one way.

2. Jeep Meridian Overland 4x4 (Construction Site Visits / Outstation Trips)

Next on my list currently, the upcoming endeavour is not that appealing to me simply because I believe it will be priced very high and will be quite up off the ground which will be an issue for my parents who are aged to get in and out. Meridian 4x4's seems like the perfect fit right now for this requirement.

3. Lexus ES300h Luxury(Luxurious + Reliable + Practical Family Sedan)

How can a list of cars be complete without the old trusted Toyota. The ES300h is the no brainer choice for daily chauffeur driven drives to the office and back along with going to the parties and business meetings and what not. Experienced a friend's car for quite a while and it's leagues ahead of the competition if we are ready to compromise a bit on driving pleasure in my opinion.

Total Cost New: 80 + 46 + 80 = 2.06 Crore
5 Years Used in Good Condition: 40 + 20 + 45 = 1.05 Crore

My Ideal 3 car configuration, within 1 crore budget, and based on Available options in April 2024 would be :

#1 - City Bumper to Bumper, 5 days office car:
MG Comet Exclusive FC - EV(10L)

#2 - For my Farm, Other chores, Airport Vehicle, Adventure, :
Isuzu V-Cross AT (27L)(Pure Workhorse machine)

Budget remaining = 63L

#3 - Luxury Vehicle for Feel Good and Pure Driving pleasure on Expressways:
Audi Q5 (75L)

I know I am out of budget ��
But just wanted to put those combinations together

I'd do exactly what I have right now, but with even the Mini being a pre-owned purchase to stay with the budget.

Each of these is a lovely treasure hunt in the used market, and half the fun is in finding the right piece!

Monster engine, monster car. Goes anywhere, fast.

Daily driver. Fun as hell to drive in traffic. I used to drive a 2017 JCW, now drive a 2023 SE. The electric is even more fun, and the limited range is no big deal for a city runner.

Sorry for the esoteric choices, but half the fun in India is scouring the pre-owned market for deals!
