VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Mod Note: Our Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift Preview has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Volkswagen has announced that the Tiguan 5-seater SUV will be re-launched in the Indian market later this year. The move is a part of the brand's four-pronged offensive which also includes the Taigun crossover, the T-Roc and the Tiguan Allspace.

The Tiguan facelift gets a few design updates, which include re-profiled twin-pod LED headlamps that have twin L-shaped LED daytime running lights and a redesigned front bumper. At the rear, the SUV gets new tail lamp units and a redesigned bumper with chrome inserts.

The Tiguan will be offered with a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine shared with the Tiguan Allspace. This engine delivers 187 BHP and 320 Nm and comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

A front-wheel drive entry-level variant might also be on offer. It could be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.

VAG needs to have a diesel engine in their portfolio, at least in the D-Segment and above.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

Will be offered with only the 2L TSI + 4Motion system and not the 1.5L TSI. More importantly the Tiguan will be assembled in India.

Will get the new VW steering, new LED headlights and digital cockpit.

They really have to bring back Diesels, at least in the higher segments. Buying an AWD SUV at around 35 to 40L, I don't see myself going for a petrol, at least for the next few years. Diesels for VAG isn't something new, they do have diesels with the latest pollution norms in Europe, and BS6 doesn't seem to a factor preventing VAG from relaunching diesels.

Engine options are good to have, But isnt this a bit too much ?

A superbly specc'd 2.0L Turbo petrol and a 1.5 Turbo too ? Or is there a typo ?

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

I test drove the Allspace a few weeks ago and it is a gem of an engine + transmission combo. None of the other premium SUVs (Compass, Tucson, C5) are even a patch on it. I'd rather get a petrol than a diesel which clatters at >30L. I wouldn't bother buying a premium vehicle if mileage/fuel costs were a concern.

The CKD 5 seater should be much cheaper than the CBU 7 seater and if they price it right it'll sell. There is no replacement for VAG powertrains at this price point.

Eagerly looking forward to the Tiguan - both facelift and Allspace. Petrol AWD SUV makes the most sense at least for me in Delhi NCR. Test drove the earlier batch of Allspace a couple of months back and it was impressive. Same engine in the lighter 5-seater should be a hoot to drive.

Why, VW, why are you LATE on this ? If only you would have given this hint at least 6 months ago I am sure some people would have willingly eked out 28-30l for a 187bhp engine. All that was available from the VW/Skoda stable at the time was the Superb, which was too much of a car (size wise).

I was in mourning and you helped to lift me out of it a bit and made me smile for 10-12 seconds straight, and after I typed the first few words here I was guffawing for another 8-10 seconds, thank you

I hope they reduce the prices although either way it’ll still be out of my budget, always did look understated classy though.

In the videos for the VW polo Matt edition launch I saw two SUVs. Are those any refreshed versions since I couldn't find anything further.

I believe they are the "Habanero Orange Metallic" Tiguan AllSpace & the "Kurkuma Yellow" T-Roc.

The AllSpace's headlights and grille seemed to be exactly the same as the previous gen as did the T-Roc's, at least from what I could discern from the video. So, they don't look like the facelifts, but again, I could be wrong. Maybe there are changes, when you look closer.

Re: VW to launch Tiguan 5-seater SUV in 2021

The 5 seat Tiguan is one of the most perfectly proportioned crossovers I feel. It looks absolutely comfortable all around seating wise, has great boot space all in a sensible footprint.

I dearly hope they can give it a much superior ride quality when they relaunch. It’s definitely much plusher looking than say a C5 but the C5’s utterly comfortable carpet ride will be a hard one to ignore. Not to mention a super refined diesel efficient engine.

I think that Porsche has really improved your mood (and sense of humour) these days!

Here's some trivia for those not following the Tiguan = VW doubled up on the Tiguan AllSpace and ended up with way too much excess inventory / unsold cars. The person in charge almost lost his job and was transferred to Germany, I heard. Dealers were moving 2-year old unsold Tiguans at massive discounts. VW & Skoda have to take care that they don't enter the "discount deathtrap" for their expensive cars, that Audi / BMW / Mercedes find themselves in. No one buys these luxury cars without a 5 - 10 lakh discount anymore and they've spoiled the customer. I'm seeing the same with premium VWs & Skodas. They should instead learn from Ford (Endeavour) & Toyota (Fortuner) which sell with minimal or reasonable discounts, but never anything too excessive.
