As an Aria owner who's a sucker for vans, I'm so ready to buy this thing. Looks nice, boxy and proportionate.

The Verna, not so much 😏

if it ain't broke, don't fix it
They have 8000 bookings already. Just like the Creta, they will sell more than they can manufacture. They'll do fine.

I am sure it will definitely be an overstatement. Elantra, Civic and Octavia definitely will be build at a much better level than Verna, inside out.
And 1.8 / 2 TSI in Octavia is a much better performer than 1.5 TSI from VAG, especially once you reach high triple digit speeds. So don’t think anything different with Verna too.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

For all who think that the vehicle is ugly from the photos, I would really suggest taking a look at it in flesh. I absolutely hated the car in the photos, but went to have a look anyway because I was in love with the engine specs, and I genuinely found the car to be much better looking than I expected. I would still prefer the looks of slavia/virtus, but this is still a good-looking car from many angles (especially once you get rid of that humongous logo).
I also felt that the interiors were definitely a couple of notches above the VW brigade, not just in terms of looks, but also in terms of feel and quality.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

What's with this shark tail like front bumper design at the corners? Keep looking at it for 10 seconds and it looks so hideous, & Verna is known for its boat-like ride so both aspects complement each other perfectly isn't it ? That image of Verna & Virtus in same frame says it all design wise. Virtus looks much more sophisticated & beats Verna hands down.

Any specs out on the GC yet? GC looks reasonable in the photos though not in the Slavia Virtus league.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I checked out the display car a few days back - It looked better than it appeared in the photos for sure. Yes the front is a bit polarising, but overall gave the feel of a well proportioned car.

It was nice inside too - I sat in the Turbo version, and the all-black interior was nice to experience ( disclaimer - i don't like beige interiors ).

I have been exploring options to change my car, and this has thrown a twist in the story so far. The major downside I see is the GC which I guess goes with the territory as far as sedans are concerned. The rear seat space is much better than the earlier Verna for sure.

The long wheelbase + low GC (165?) can be a problem exiting sharp ramps or going through challenging speedbreakers I guess. Especially when fully loaded. Will look forward to some real-world drive reviews exploring this aspect. Otherwise the car ticks most boxes in my opinion. Where else can you find a 160HP 1.5 turbo manual under 19L on road?

Final thought - Fender-benders in crawling traffic can be a bit challenging with the front portruding forward, wonder what part will take the hit first.. DRLs?

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I checked out the new Verna today here in Coimbatore and I gotta admit, the car looks much better in person (especially the black turbo variant one). I couldn’t take the test drive because it starts from next week only. But the showroom was super crowded and there was a visible excitement towards the Verna. Also, the Achilles heel of the old Verna - “back seat space” has been well and truly addressed in this generation. Although City seems a bit more spacious (probably due to the interior colour scheme), space is not a deal breaker for the verna anymore.

Glad to see sedans making a comeback across manufacturers.

Would I still buy the City even with this new generation Verna in the picture? The answer might not be a resounding YES anymore.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

IMO the earlier hyundai designs started coming of age and seemed more mature and elegant. After the new i20 - looks like they have gone back to to snazzy funky designs which I fear will not age well over the years. Too quirky for my liking.

And I think Tata needs to be blamed for showing the automobile design industry that headlamps need not be where they always were - I think it's getting very repetitive and boring and every auto maker is keeping the DRL where the headlamp were supposed to be and pushing down the headlamps below. Though a nifty design trick - but not getting boring.

Dear Designers - please bring back the elegant design lines, not all of us want to move around in a funky looking car.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Got the vehicle to test drive today.

SX(O) Turbo MT

Initial Impressions:
1. Engine was completely refined.
2. Felt turbo lag at the bottom end, but once we crossed past the 1900rpm, it went like a comet.
3. 2nd gear maxed out at 95kph.
4. Bose systems were phenomenal for someone like me, coming from the Blaupunkt.
5. ADAS worked well for most of the part. (Voice alert came like "Children ahead" for every obstacle ahead, Blind spot monitoring)
6. Felt a very stable ride coming from the Manza's soft-tuned one.(Pushed to 108kph)
7. Low-speed ride were very harsh but then discovered that tyre pressure was the culprit.(52psi)
8. Door has good heft, almost comparable to VW twins.
9. Cabin was well insulated from the outside world.
10. Slight creaky noise comes from the clutch everytime I release it but it was absolutely smooth & soft.
11. Everything in the interior felt well put together.

Since the dealer had temp registration for the vehicle, can't able to take it to the OTR to check high-speed manners.

Dealer had the Titan grey readily available, which could be taken for delivery by April 14th. But we decided to wait for the Tellurian Brown shade which looked classy with those black alloys.

Man I wanted to be excited for this car after hearing about the 160ps engine but it just looks so bad and tacky from all angles and in every colour.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Hey guys,

So I own the old gen Verna and am looking to upgrade to this new one. I am mostly interested in the top end SX(O) DCT version.

However I also own a Kia Seltos, 1.4L GTX+ DCT Petrol. Bought the car in 2019. Recently (over the past maybe 9 months) I have started experiencing gearbox heating issues with the DCT box. The "transmission temperature" gauge in the Seltos starts to heat up in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Around 2-3 times I've had this issue and got the alert message on the central MID screen asking me to stop the car on the side and wait for the gearbox to cooldown. This is really inconvenient and not expected of a car that costs this much. It made me think whether Kia actually tested this for our Indian traffic conditions or not.
Oh and I live in Delhi and most of my drive is in the city (some outside towards Noida wherein I use the Meerut Expressway).

So I am very concerned whether I should change my decision to the NA Petrol variant of the new Verna, or just go with the DCT itself (since its a new engine, 1.5L instead of the 1.4L)

However I am an enthusiast and definitely do not want to move away from a Turbo (that too hopefully being one the best in this segment, waiting for the reviews)

So any insight/thoughts/views from the community on this topic would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance.
