The Windsor is a good chunk larger than this and feels much more premium in my experience to the Seltos, forget this. I find it a little strange with what they're trying to do here, and can't fathom who is this exactly for.

I’m not sure how Kia can position the Syros between the Seltos and Sonet, as the latter models already have overlapping variants in terms of price. I had assumed that the new SUV / crossover would be Kia’s version of the Hyundai Exter. Since Kia has no plans to launch a hatchback in India, I still believe the Syros could be a mini SUV / crossover based on the Exter’s platform, positioned below the Sonet to target the sub-10 lakh INR price segment.

Will this also carry on with the familiar feature of "unstable body-shell" or this will be differentiated from the cousins in that respect?

This has to be sub-4m car. Otherwise making a car >4m but <4.3m makes no sense as you keep the small size but pay a hell lot more tax for no reason.

Maybe they'll make it wider and more space efficient and put in better interiors. But then again Sonet was already the best in the segment with interiors. So not sure what their game-plan is.

It might make sense if it's hybrid. Sub-4m hybrid makes a lot of sense. EV I honestly don't think will work as it'll be 'jugaad' EV like Tata ones built on ICE platform.

Wouldn't say similar, but it looked almost as big as the Creta (you can see it in one of the images I shared above). I think Kia is pulling a Sonet. Playing with design to make the car look bigger than it actually is. Reminded me of the older Kia Soul from the side.

I have a feeling that Autocar will be wrong this time. There is no way this small car will sit above Sonet, unless it is a hybrid or EV. ("new species of SUVs" ?)

It looks small in almost every photo. This looks more like Kia's version of the Exter.

On the other hand, if this is just an ICE vehicle above Sonet with smaller dimenion (like Exter) and premium pricing (with all the comfort features), this will be Kia's first flop product in India.

I saw a couple of them early morning, doing test runs on the Bangalore Hyderabad highway. The first one was near Chikkaballapur, red coloured and going at high speed. Spotted the second car, white one, near the Kia factory, doing moderate pace. Size wise it looked shorter in length and width than the Seltos but looked taller with good presence. It was camouflaged but had those signature headlight and tail lights.

Didn't spot any on the return leg which was late morning/afternoon.

I've seen it being tested on highways a few times over the past few months and it appeared wider and taller than a Sonet. It is clearly not the Exter segment.

If the design language is not too different from Sonet and Seltos, then this new SUV would not put sales chart on fire. The mantra is to cover different segments and styles while getting a nice overlap between the range so that the customer choose only your product.

Mahindra (Thar, Scorpio, XUV7oo, BE) and Tata (Harrier, Curvv, Siera) understood the customer very well and launching price overlapping products with unique differentiated offering i.e. different size, shape and style.

Although this new kia look more boxy design.
