Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Yes, this shade even I feel is slightly darker. Pic is clicked by a 2mpx mobile cam with tubelight light. so it may differ. But I feel the finish looks nice. better than I expected what say?

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Nice to see the car painted. Would be good if you can post some good quality pics. I agree with Bala about the color being Pastel blue, though can't comment till we have some nice resolution pics.
Do you intend to keep the door handles body colored? .

Yes some more pictures will clarify however even if it is the same color (a bit darker) is fine as days to go by it will lighten. For this car and esp this color door handles should be dull black along with bumpers to give that retro look, however i guess grille can be silver.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

I'll get some nice pics clicked on Sunday once the car is out in the open. Real shade even I am guessing it to be darker than the original pastel blue. All I can say now is that I love the paint shade whatever it is now.

Door handles, the trim on the C-Pillar and Bumpers will be black. Grill and wheels will be silver.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

The SS80 seems to be shaping up really nice with all those details. The color seems close to the Original shade, please do post some good quality pics.
Also will the bumper be matt finish or glossy ones. Its good to hear that you got the tail lamp assembly at a good price.
So whats next on the card- interior, fluid change and all.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Good quality pictures will come in a day or two.
Bumper orignal is matt finish but I've gone with the glossy one. Will be fixed tomorrow.
Bumper and side trim has been painted black, grill has been painted silver. will be fixed mostly tomorrow.

Interior work, will get a quotation tomorrow. If all is well then that will start tomorrow too.
Stay tuned

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

UPdate on my SS80

Brought more parts today
Glove box lid; got one from scrapyard for 100 bux. Cheap but very important for my car.
Door beadings; mudflaps, inside lock bezels, bonnet button, mirros (look similar to orignal)

Now trying to source the orignal Maruti 800 monogram for front and rear.

Also, If anyone is looking for an SS80 grille, a guy i know has one. He wants to sell it for 800 bucks which aint bad. I visited Kurla CST road and that's the only place I could find parts for this car.

PM me if anyone wants that grill.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Please try to post a few good quality (non grainy) pics from more angles fx45. These pics just give us a fair idea of whats changed from the previous pic(something on the lines of spot the difference).
Nice to hear that you got more parts for the car. 800 Rs for a first gen M800 front grill seems a bit pricey . Here i inquired about the same and was told that it costs around 300 to 400 bucks in scrapyard, if available.
Anyways its good that you are able to get what you require as price isn't a factor in these type of restorations.
Do share more updates as and when they happen.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

I am sorry folks, the car is still inside so I cant get good quality pics for some days.

About the Grill
Rs 800 is pricey, I agree, but CST Road in Mumbai is one of the largest scrap yards; and even there, there was only one car that was recently parted out. hence the price; No one else has any parts for the Dinky. So yes, all these prices are subject to availability.

I enquired at about 7-8 stores for Dinky parts, and 2 of them told me that you're the first person after about 3-4 years who has come to ask to enquire about the car. Here in Mumbai, SS80 is becoming even rarer than a Dukkar Fiat.

I agree with you on the price factor. As you may already know that only 22000 units of SS80s were assembled so we can't compare it with the production numbers of a dukkar. I feel whatever cars are left should be preserved and thanks to you that atleast one of the 22K will survive.
I have witnessed the scrapping of atleast 5 SS80s including a Deluxe variant too. I have an eye on a couple of standard ones but they are far from complete let alone be original. Got a quote of Rs. 22000 for a car which was battered to the core, bonnet wasn't hinged, dash totally mutilated, negative camber and so on. Just waiting for a decent vehicle to turn up and hope to join the SS80 club too.

I doubt whether the figure of 22000 is correct.as per my info, around 36000 SS80's including all variants were produced in the period 83 December to March 1986(sureshkishore may be able to provide the accurate figure)
If you are interested there is an ss80 DX for sale in Trivandrum with a garage owner near POPULAR VEHICLES(maruti dealer in Trivandrum).
