White Maruti Suzuki SS80 in Chennai

Two days ago I was in Chennai where I saw a White Maruti 800(SS80) with old Tamil Nadu registration number plate parked in a bungalow in Chennai(due to privacy concerns I cannot disclose the address nor location of the car). The car had a DX sticker in the front grille of the car but on examination of interior , the car appeared to be standard variant. On inquiry, the Housekeeper of the House revealed that the car hasn't been used since six years(not even serviced or engine started even once in six years) and is lying unused exposed to elements

Condition of the car - The car is in a poor condition with rusting in many places such as in bonnet and there is rotting with loss of metal near left side of the tail gate .Only the outline of antennae is there with rusting in A - pillar
The interior of the car has non original seat covers which matches with door pads. There is a non period Sony cassette player .The gear knob is from new Maruti 800(SB 308).There is no leather upholstery, cigarette lighter and in place of digital clock there is a plastic covering the gap in dashboard which is unusual in the aspect that standard variants had a high quality plastic which was corrugated not like this smooth low quality part. There is no A/C but simple blower controls are present. The gearbox has a long throw with difficulty in engaging first, second gear.
Lastly, there was a strong old newspaper like stench emanating from the interior of the car which made even sitting in the car for few minutes difficult.

Some pictures of the Maruti 800(SS80)
1.DX(Deluxe) sticker in the front grille of the car

2.Rust in the bonnet with no logo of Maruti in Bonnet release

3.Rotting near the left side of the tail gate with loss of metal.

4.Non original seat covers with matching fabric door pads.In the left side you can see non original plastic cover covering the place for Digital Clock in Deluxe models

5.Non period stereo and gear knob from new Maruti 800(SB 308)

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Guys,

I need urgent help on Wiper Assembly for my 1984 January Model SS80 Std. Its almost impossible to source one in Delhi NCR. Any vendors/ stockists in other parts of the country who might be stocking it?

Need help from the community on their contacts.

Also any views on whether the SB308 Wiper Assembly is compatible with SS80. Read somewhere that it is after minor modifications and cutting of Firewall to mount it.

By wiper assembly did you mean only the wiper blades ? If so, I have given up searching for them long back, for my SS80, I use the Omni's wiper blades which do the job pretty well except that it is a little shorter in length than the original ones.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

'found in a facebook group album- the very first known SS80 sold in India, still with the first owner, Harpal Singh of Delhi.

The pic. below, showing the car, would be a more recent one.

Nothing needs to be done, it is a straight fit, just buy the blade and clip it on !

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Does anybody requires full speedometer of SS80. There is one used piece available with the mounting bracket(frame which holds the two meters) here which came out from a scrapped car. condition is pretty decent. Let me know if anybody requires the same.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Hi freinds, today in the afternoon I had gone to Maruti workshop at Andheri, and was stunned to see SS80 1984, first batch of japanese cars
non DX with folowing GOODIES which its first owner is still enjoying.
Year of purchase ..1984
Original Chocklate brown colour.
No touch up paint done till today.
No denting painting done to the car
All corroded portions filled with M Seal so that welding that portion will spoil original paint.
At many places paint has washed away.
Original engine with more then a lakh kms.
All bulbs,Head lights and other lights original.
He says he will take the car along with him to god when he dies
He got all services till today from Enpak and Vittesse.
Car starts instantly and no smoke from exhaust.
Doors shutting needs just a push.
Rims are original.
I have lost track of other things he said .... BEST OF LUCK FOR HIM
Meanwhile enjoy the photos please.Quality of photos poor please excuse meas of today it is my mobile which is as old as the SS80

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Front right fender sure looks like a repaint. This is no way to treat a car though!

Sure this is not the way this car is to be enjoyed, the beauty needs lots of attention.
