It's got spoiler,new design of seat cover and red fiat sign on the wheels.

If the MJD model displayed in the AutoExpo 2008 is the one that Fiat is introducing in the Indian market then couple of features that I could make out are as below:
1. FIAT logo in RED
2. Rear defogger
3. Rear wash wipe
4. Alloy wheels
5. Rear spoiler

Fellow t-bhpians can point out some of things that I might have missed out. May be guys who have been to the expo can give a clear picture.

Fiat has tuned the engine for 17KGM torque as opposed to 19KGM from the Swift, hence BSM didnot find the Palio not as peppy as the Swift.

Why would that be? Is the gearbox any different than what is in Swift, or is Palio's chassis not good enough to handle so much of torque?

Some are saying that Palio 1.3 is coming in the end of Jan, some are saying the launch will be in Feb08. To be on the safer side people are quoting that it will be launched in this quarter. Does anybody has some confirmed news on the launch?

I think Fiat is being smart in detuning it to 17 KGM. The 1.3 MJD palio launch in my opinion is going to be the make or break for fiat. I suspect that it will be a make rather than a break.


The only way for companies to dominate the market in India is by selling volume viz (maruti , Hyundai ).

If the Palio MJD offers 10% more mileage than swift, then 85% of the customers wont mind the additional 2 seconds it takes to reach 100 kmph.

The Palio 1.3 MJD might well be the break that Fiat was looking for. I hope they'll be able to make the best of what looks to be a fantastic package.

More than the torque & power that we (less than 5%) of the car buyers talk about, it will be the customer satisfaction levels/service levels that matter, i hope (Very sincerely) fiat could make a huge change in that.

Lesser torque but same bhp means that the power curve has been altered to deliver over a bigger range or rpm, so one does not need to shift gears as often ( if one drives sensibly ) .

What's the logic behind that? But that logic, you would hardly need any shifts on a petrol car!


I mean, you would have to drive the car to know how it feels. It's pointless making guesses about the FE at this point of time.

I dont know why everyone is saying that car will struggle etc. Do anyone remember the LEGENDARY PALIO 1.9D ????

Anyone who owned that car still praises it for the engine. I think the car will do just fine with 75 BHP and 170 NM.

Sir, it is just plain mathematics that will prove that if the torque is reduced but the BHP remains the same (as swift ) then the power curve is smoothed out.

I dont think the Fiat 1.3 MJD will struggle. I think it is going to be a grand success
