Is there more difference between the two that will warrant an almost 2Lac price difference between Dezire Zxi and Sx4 Zxi ?
The huge A-pillar. how about that?

Comparing 2 different vehicle from the same manufacturer in 2 price bracket is insane. Its like comparing the ikon flair with the fiesta.

Biggest point of the DZire is the diesel option. And remember it aint just a Swift with a boot. There are lot more changes as well.

Cheers

Such as?

I hope the rear legroom and overall rear bench comfort is much improved as compared to the Swift. The cramped rear seat was one of the biggest negatives of the Swift.

The fact remains that a car buyer would do that. Especially if the top end diesel Dezire would be close to the base SX4 petrol. In India, any two cars which are in the same price bracket do get compared even if they are different segments. Someone thinking of buying an SX4 VXI might think I can spend xxk less and get a diesel car with so many extra features. Its unlikely that too many people would be bothered about the 0-100 timing or the wheel size.

This looks pretty cool. the picture in one of the mag was like a photoshopped version of swift.
Ram, what is the increased rear leg room compared to swift & how did they manage to do it with the same wheel base?

He has mentioned that he has driven the car, but not able to reveal the points due to his limitations.

In my mind, there is one main doubt regarding the Swift DZIRE! Swift already has a tendency to oversteer at its limits (which makes it fun too!). How would this charecter be affected (increased?) with the addition of boot in the DZIRE?

Some understeer at limits is fun, but too much of understeer could be dangerous.

But then, there isn't a top-end variant of Ikon Flair that is "better" (more VFM) when compared to any least end variant of Fiesta.

Don't know if this is the first time in Indian car history when two manufacturers (Tata and Maruti) are launching new models whose top end variants can end up cannibalizing the next higher version in those stables.

Sumo Grande GX likely to cannibalize Safari 4x2 LX
Dezire Diesel/Petrol Zxi likely to cannibalize Sx4 Vxi

Time will tell.

Actually these manufacturers dont mind cannabalization these days.

Jagdishji of Maruti was quoted as saying "As long as its a Maruti that is selling, we dont care". He was repling to a question whether WagonR will get hit due to launch of the Estilo in the same category.

When is it expected to be launched (this week or next ). I guess initially its gonna be petrol only. It would be big achievement if launched with Diesel as well.

The rear looked pretty spacious.Mansidea i dont know by how much mm but its pretty ok compared to swift. The inclination of the rear seat is also increased.
Handling should be in the same league of swift IMO.The launch will be by march 3rd week.Diesel would be launched simultaneously.
