If the Evo X is going to be priced at 35 lakhs, why not go for the 300 bhp Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro:

Upside:
1) It is a diesel
2) It is much more comfortable
3) It would most likely be much better supported than the Mitsubishi

Downside: It takes 6 seconds to do 0-100 kmph

To me the A4 is the most practical sporty car in India today

Of course if they bring a 350+ bhp Evo X for the price, it is a different ball-game

Are you sure the A4 has 300Bph? I was under the impression it was near the 230Bhp mark.

The A4 does a 0-62Mph in 6.1 Seconds and the Evo X manages the same in 4.5's. I really don't think you can compare the two cars.

As per my knowledge Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro is 240ps, that's around 237bhp (closer to what Samir mentioned)

I withdraw my remarks

Anyone who's driven an EVO will laugh at you for making that comparison . Paper figures mean nothing. Anyone buying an EVO will not care about fuel efficiency of the car. Nor will he care that the ride is hard.

dude - true sports car enthusiasts seem to be a rare and dying breed in india, more so because in the absence of budget performance cars people are wooed by turbo diesels and their torque surge in narrow power bands.
Ofcourse there will always be an enthusiast who will buy a petrol hatch/sedan for handling and someday buy an evo for its sheer performance and handling capabilities.
Lets hope HM doesn't get foolish and launch a evo with a diesel transplant if we can get a diesel fiat 500 we can expect anything!

The EVO X is in a different league compared to the Audi. The A4 is an executive sedan pretending to have sporting credentials. The EVO is a rally car tamed for the road. The AWD system is so much more than what quattro is.

I wouldn't expect it to come with the full 276BHP of the Japanese car as it requires 98RON petrol in that tune. Expect it to come re/detuned.

I for one don't expect it to come at all.

Guys, I spoke to HM sales guy in Mumbai last week and he is saying Evo X (with 300+ BHP) will be launched next year in the price range of 35L onwards. But he also said they will launch new Cedia on Evo X platoform(stripped down version with ~120-130BHP) around 12-13 L in next 6 to 8 months (and place it around Civis / Altis range).

not sure how true this is...but nteresting enough!!

I was having a chat with the Mitsu guys in Chennai, they said the EVO X is expected around end/begining next year and the new cedia/lancer in march 2010.Don't know how true it is though.

And yes about the price, he mentioned it being upwards of 30/35L.

Knowing HM, they will put some atrocious grills, bumpers, and worst of all some of the world's dirtiest stickers too, I hate these buggers for killing Mitsubishi in India.

@Vipul Singh
Thats not a comparison actually, When you are talking of an Evo, you dont talk of anything diesel Its a cult thingy.

Regards,
TG.

Your (and other members') point well taken. I realized my folly. Besides, I got the facts wrong, too!

No chance before mid-2010. And even then, they will go ahead with the launch only if the forex situation allows them to import the EVO X at a realistic price. Witness the Montero whose price has shot up from 40 lakhs to 53! In less than 18 months.
