i agree - at 12 lacs i was contemplating buying it provided they had the 1.4 ltr 100bhp sport, at 15 lacs and that too for the 75bhp diesel, no way
i think some uninitiated rich college kid who has no idea about cars may pester his/her dad into one or some wannabe hilton heiress maybe interested

It all depends on your taste man.

I guess this is like asking should I buy 6 trousers from the street instead of buying one pair of Dockers from the Dockers store

No offense to the Nano here but both these cars are leagues apart and just cannot be compared.

What you say is right but I don't think anyone looking to buy a 500 would be thinking or comparing it with any of the above cars.

I don't like the looks of the 500. I just hope FIAT don't end up like the S10 - when they struggled to sell the limited 500 cars ending up with HUGE discounts. So anyone wanting to buy a 500, wait for about a year - you might get for 50% discount.

you will notice that it is only going to be launched in India with the 75bhp multijet diesel engine which according to most reviewers is crap when compared to the 100bhp 1.4 ltr petrol
heres a topgear video on that
YouTube - Top Gear Fiat 500
If only they had the brains to launch it with the rev happy 1.4 ltr 100bhp engine which even beats the bmw mini
YouTube - Fiat 500 vs. Mini One
if you realize people who will buy a puny small car for 15 lacs plus are not going to buy it because of its 'engine' they will buy it for its 'imagery'.

15 lacs a person who wants a good engine can buy the vtec or the RS. nothings wrong with the engine of the Fiat 500.

@screwdriwa : not everyone who buys a land rover goes off road, similarly for cars like the 500 not everyone would compare it with whats available (other cars) for that price. they will buy it for its exclusivity.

@ mshooli , Both cars Nano as well as 500 comes from TATA stable (atleast in India) and spending like 12-15 Lacs that too for a Bancrupted Fiat's hetch? no way!

If it was a Ferrari, BMW, Merc, Audi or even Volks for that matter... i would have got one !

Boy, at the end of day BRAND value does matters ! cheers:

its always STUPID fiat. this car is going to flop on its face so hard worse than palio. i do like it, but looking at the bright side, after some rich kid gets bored of it and sells it, ill buy it since fiat has horrible resale value. then it will be for under 5 laks. hahahaha

If people can buy hatcbacks, premium sedans and SUV's from a near bankcrupt GM then why not a expensive hatchback from a now profitable company?

Palio was a volume car and thats why it could flop. 500 isn't. Fiat, very smartly, are not even talking about their intended sales target. If it doesn't sell they will probably import it back and sell it in other right hand drive markets (UK) where it is in demand. What I am saying is the car is probably going to be "imported on order" and Fiat can easily claim that the demand is better then expected!

Instead of taking on Honda Civic, Fiat should position this against Maruti Swift and target the SINKy or DINKy (DoubleIncomeNoKids)or DISKy crowd.

Yes agreed both come from the TATA stable but then the Nano while being produced in India, the 500 is a direct import. Which definitely makes a lot of difference

Why we keep comparing 500 with locally made cars?? It is going to be imported... If BMW decides to import Mini, will we get it at the price of Fabia??

When we talk about brand value, I ve seen people importing Chrysler 300 for a price which could buy 3/5 series but still for exclusivity, people go and buy it..

500 is intended only for brand building and to showcase FIAT's few marquees in India.. Let people decide whether they want to buy 500 or not..

FIAT shot themselves in the foot with the Palio. If they are serious about brand building - I think offering better A.S.S support to existing FIAT owners would be much better than launching the 500 !

Of course. But here we are just giving our views.

Now back to the 500.
