After readings on the Cruze, my view:

1. I'd go for the diesel;
2. But would wait for the 6-speed automatic transmission; its already available in the Uk as an option;
3. I won't worry about the turbo lag at lower speed;
4. Chevrolet should do away with the auto cruise as I don't think Indian traffic condtions really allow its frequent use and instead throw in some other useful feature like electronic driver seat adjustment or rear A/c vents.

I would look at the Jetta 1.9 CRDi, when it comes, but it would be hard for it to match the features of the Cruse.

Is the Cruze going to come with an automatic? BS Motoring seems to say they will for the 1.8. And that too with a 5-speed auto. If true, that should be bad news for the Corolla for sure.

As per as ACI, the diesel Cruze LTZ will be 13 Lacs OTR (Mumbai)
At this price, we can kiss Octavia and Sonata goodbye and will even challenge Honda and Toyota (soon to be launched Altis diesel).
Equipment list is breathtaking in this category. GM is doing exactly what Superb did in it's segment.
The best part of course is it's diesel which clocks 0-100 in 9.6 seconds.....unbelievably fast.

For The Cruze has much better cabin quality than existing Chevrolet buyers will be used to, and it looks pretty funky, too. The bargain-bucket price will be tempting

Against The petrol engines are gutless, it's not particularly exciting or comfortable to drive and it's not as practical as your everyday hatchback

The Cruze was tested in Car & Bike show in NDTV today. Happened to see that by chance. The interiors seems to be exactly the same as show in this post. The Push button for On/Off, Automatic rain sensing wipers and other few things were mentioned as exactly mentioned by Sid. it was mentioned that initially only the Diesel variant is going to be launched.

WHATCAR seems to be nuts by mentioning Diesel is fine...man their diesel is a gem.
Anyway these guys are pretty harsh. If you get 3/5, you have done exceedingly good.
Even Land Cruiser V8 4 X 4 has managed to earn 3/5......

Who wants to launch Altis Diesel anyway? They'll make enough money by selling off Fortuners in the coming 12-20 months. So I assume, Cruze is all set to re-define this segment.

Yeah sure it is.

Cruze, good pricing, and AT option will do the trick.

Are the dates available for the launch ? Need to go there.

The Cruze looks like it'll be quite a car.

The only bit I don't get is the "rear A/C vents under the front seats" bit. This is quite useless. I should know, it is there in the Civic. You need to activate the lower vents to get air through them and even then, if you want any sort of cooling for the rear, you need to put the blowers at high speed - but then the front occupants' feet freeze solid.

The diesel looks like it'll be quite a rocket. Plonk in a box and it'll be pretty fast. I just hope it handles better than it's predecessor, the Optra. Seeing that it has non-independent rear suspension, I don't hold out much hope though.

the car looked much smaller than how it looks in the picture.Read about it long back in a magazine.

i doubt they would launch the car with white interiors cause in indian market beige is the preferred colour. Even i was one among them until i bought my innova, cause its really difficult to maintain them. I like black interiors for this particular reason, and that one reason i love the interiors of the Getz previous generation, which is black and has a soft rubber coat, now that gives a better feel.

with regards to A/T people who prefer it just wait for six months to a year there will be surely an A/T, cause right from opel astra back in 98 GM use to bring the A/T version after a while from launching the car, GM is proven for bigger price cuts after a while. Though i like the car in many ways like everyone said its over priced and still dont dare to go for GM after the pathetic experience my cousins had with the astra club and the corsas

Chevrolet's Diesel Engine is not like that. It is very reliable(also used in Captiva). It is going to be most powerful and most reliable engine & the Car is going to be most advanced in its segment(just like Superb did with TSI).SO you don't have to remember those days of Astra and Corsa-they are History. Though History repeats itself but this time it won't repeat with GM.

Infractions: 0/2 (8)

the chevy cruze can come in with this good package and price of Rs 13 lacs
but unfortunately it lacks the "premium" feel that Skoda managed to bring with it.

Chevy isa badge that not many people will pay a premium for however good the car looks and may actually be - (remember the good-looking SRV?) Despite the good value that the Optra Magnum provides, we still dont see as many of them on the roads as we see Hondas and Toyotas.

GM in India has blotted its copybook several times over and that kind of thing takes time to erase from people's memories.

I for one, would prefer to wait and watch the success of Chevy Cruze before hazarding a comment about its envisaged success etc.

According to me, it will have its work cut out to match Honda and Toyota as well as the Skoda's of the world. its advantage against the Honda's and Toyota's of the world will mainly be that the Diesel engine.
