re: Tata Nano Fire Incidents. EDIT: Tata's analysis on page 34

Very sad to hear this incident, it is all the more painful when good people are made to suffer like this. I wish I knew a good way to deal with this but anyway heres my 2p:
I suggest you first contact the dealer that the vehicle was purchased from, and get details of the CRO/ relationship manager for Tata motors for that region, and then try escalating from there.
Also this is the area office for Chennai:
Chennai
Regional Office
& Area Office 044 - 66500900 6th Floor, ASV Ramanas Tower
Venkatnarayana Road
T. Nagar, Chennai - 600017
and this is the email id for the person heading corp. communications:
debasis.ray@tatamotors.com. He is quoted in many of the articles on this incident.

Maybe you can call/setup an appointment with regional manager and officially lodge your complaint there, and then proceed from there. Since this incident was also reported in the media that is an additional advantage when filing the official complaint.
If you have contacts in the media thru NGO/other sources then you could also take their help in finding out about other such incidents and maybe get a piece published.

Also a few other strategies are to set up a Facebook page for this incident, or to network thru Facebook/internet forums to find other potential victims, who might be interested in pursuing the matter further. If you have access to a good lawyer, then you can also escalate this matter thru legal means, or atleast take his help in drafting letters to Tata Motors.

Just FYI, I was told by a friends' cousin who works for Tata Motors who mentioned that there is definitely a safety problem with the 1st Gen Nano and in fact dissuaded his friends from buying the car. I am not sure how much credence to give to this since it is second hand info, and I don't want to indulge in rumor mongering, but take it for what its worth. Sadly it seems there is still less clarity on this issue. I wonder how many such failures have happened in total till date. Based on the media reporting it does seem to be a statistically significant number. The forbes article linked earlier is really thorough
and also a quotes an anonymous senior BHPian.

Not sure if this is of any help at all, but just wanted to wish you well.

Hope your friend and other affected people recover soon, and wishing you well in your efforts.

re: Tata Nano Fire Incidents. EDIT: Tata's analysis on page 34

I wonder how much improvement was done to the vehicle in the 2012 nano vs 2011 though I did notice the radiator has moved to the front , which could help a lot with the packaging space at the rear, less cluttered and more space for wiring and piping as well as engine cooling.

From the wheelcaps, this looks like a 2011 nano (wheel caps seem to be aftermarket ones).

Oh no not again ... Nano on fire !

Yet another Nano caught fire on 18/05 at Sahakar Nagar in Pune, Authorities are yet to assess the cause.

Fortunately, driver managed to come out from vehicle in time and some people even heard a minor blast.

Re: Oh no not again ... Nano on fire !

Not much in the news. Could find only one link here: http://www.iamin.in/en/pune/news/tat...survives-60339

Mods may please add the link to the opening post. However, this is probably the worst time this could have happened. A day before GenX Nano launch. Murphy's law, sigh.

Re: Oh no not again ... Nano on fire !

Why do we have special thread only when a Nano is on fire?
All brands and all models have been known to have fire incidents but it does not get highlighted as urgently as in case of a nano fire!

Nothing like that. We have many separate threads for all makes of cars catching fire; the newest being that of Chevrolet Sail. Then there are threads on Honda Civic catching fire, so for Merc, Vento, Audi, i20, Skoda Rapid, and Swift to name just a few. All have separate threads and a summary can be seen on google if you search with this string: cars catches fire site:www.team-bhp.com

In fact, on the contrary, there is a single thread for multiple incidents of Nanos catching fire: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ysis-pg34.html

Thanks!

Re: Oh no not again ... Nano on fire !

nano catching fire one day before its variant launch? Smells something fishy to me!! I am of the opinion that Nano's sales would have been different if the earlier fire fiasco (which also happened during its initial launch) wouldn't have happened.

Why is it fishy if Nano catches fire?
Although I like Nano, but that does not mean that I should ignore the facts.
Nano had faulty electricals initially. That led to fires in the first place in the early models.

People could die. If Tata continues to be Tata, it's not the (poor people who cannot afford cars: according to Mr. Rattan Tata) customers fault.

I love Nano for what it is. And hate it for what it is not.

The worst thing that happened to fiat and nano is Tata.

Brilliant ideas but poor execution.

It is fishy not because it is a Nano but simply because it is just a day before the GenX launch. Another strange coincidence is the location Pune. If people have heard a small explosion(mentioned in the news) that itself explains the sabotage. If certain other cars in the segment are selling about 20,000 a month and if this new Nano has disruptive potential, these kind of news can be expected.

You will not even know if a Punto or Chevrolet Sail catches fire simply because those cars do not really matter to the Indian public.

New Nano releases today, and so does this news. I think its a plan to foil the brand.

Probably.

But then it would have been all over the news, no?
