Was there any spare tire at the rear gate? Sorry it is not clear from pics. I think it is, but way to the right. If it was hung there, was it covered or open?

There might have been a spare tyre at the rear. Nothing was seen as it was completely camouflaged/covered.

Mini Xylo it seems to be for sure. Cant think of any other vehicle in this category unless its the new Tata van like prototype.

yes it looks similar to a xylo looking at the height of the tail lamps and also the shape of the back.. though its hard to identify, MODS could you help ? I guess we need some more pics of the mule

Compare this first picture with the pictures below of Mini Xylo, posted few weeks back.
This is surely seems to be a Mahindra's Mini-Xylo with its Tail-lamps & Reversing lamps positioning, tlthough the Rear Foot step is missing in the previous spy pics but it was later seen, when it was spied in Manali.

Guys, apart from the 5 seater Xylo, Mahindra is also testing a strange double cab pickup. On my recent trip to Ooty, a convoy of 4 vehicles, 3 support scorps and one camouflaged Vehicle overtook me.



They appeared to be in a hurry as they quickly disappeared on the jungle road in the Bandipur sanctuary area I and chose not to follow as was traveling with my family. Managed to take these pictures from the back though.



Side profile would give you a better idea but I could not capture that.




This vehicle seemed to be a Mahindra's Tata Xenon counterpart as an add on kit e la Xenon can be seen at the back. But at the same time its quite low on GC. Anyone has any idea?

It is not low on GC. The rear bumper gives that away. It has been purposely fitted low to give the 'impression' of low GC. Also side running board seems to be hung rather than flush fit.
