What has Honda done to the fabulous interiors of the Civic?

The swoops and curves have given way to a boxy, ruler-ed look. Almost retro-modern if I may. Looks straight out of a Sci-Fi movie from the '80s. Quite disappointing, I must say. But it should be feature-rich.

Yeah Even the new Mercedes E class has boxy interiors. I hope and pray that it is not going to be a new design direction that all manufacturers are going to take up !
And around the music system area, i just see a small hint of the Brio. Family resemblance maybe?

So i called up Ring Road Honda today and spoke to the salesman who sold me an accord a while back. Asked him when the new civic would be launched and he said 2 months and i was taken aback ! 2 months launch and no one has spied a car in India till date ? I mean Honda had been testing the Civic Facelift for over 5 months before launching it
Anyways so i asked the guy if he had heard from Honda directly and he said that the company had indicated the same. They were also liquidating all stocks at the showrooms.

I dont seem to believe the launch could be so close but a Diwali launch could be on the cards.. what say guys ?? Btw, loads of websites state that the new civic JDM spec was to be unveiled at Shanghai Motor Show, thats already on and i dont see any images? The Honda USA site has the new car and its already on sale.

If they are indeed liquidating stocks,it might be good time to buy the current civic.Probably will get some discounts if pushed hard.

Will be sad when the day comes when the current civic gets phased out.What a car that was,it along with the Swift were the icons of last decade of india motoring!The current civic and swift had bought a sense of desirability and a craving for performance among the buying public.

Well said. Interestingly enough, both the cars started out on our roads almost at the same time and going to be replaced by their newer gen model almost at the same time.

some more pics from netcarshow...some change to front grill and bumper would improve looks to a certain extent...I think the ASEAN version should have a spruced up front end.

1) One of the few cars to still retain All round independent suspension. Cars like Cruze are now on cost cutting non independent. I appreciate the fact on Honda's part.

2) The wheelbase is actually shortened by 1.2 inches. But I hope that the interior space increases which atleast seems.

3) Thankfully the fuel tank is not under the front seats.

4) Hopefully the looks will be toned up for our market.

5) A diesel will be required for sure in our market.

6) Too many screens above the rpm console. Not that good. A single uncluttered and straight forward instrument cluster is something I prefer. High driver oriented.

The current small screens are way too much confusing. Imagine what would happen on Indian roads. Even on highways we have undisciplined traffic.

The design looks retro! very boring exteriors and interiors are also not that appealing . The designers lost their passion this time.

In the front three quarters view, the rear tail lamps look too close to the ANHC for comfort! Honda could've done better. Looking at the upcoming Civic and the upcoming Elantra (Avante) I'm guessing that a lot of designers and engineers quit Honda and joined Hyundai about 2 years ago

Oh god! I know looks are subjective and all that but this new civic is such an eyesore to look at. The interiors too are so plain jane. The current civic is far better in these departments. Don't know why Honda is taking a step back in its design . Hope the new civic does not have the terrible low end power the current one has.

Once you start accepting the fact that 9th gen Civic is an evolution from the 8th gen, things start to look a little brighter.

Would this Civic give enough competition to the Altis, Cruze, Laura, upcoming Jetta, maybe Ford Focus and funnily, Kizashi? I certainly think so. The engine, as we all know, is a gem. Build quality should be exceptional, going by current standards. Hopefully the suspension issue will be looking into for our roads. Thing is, the 8th gen was (or is) such a forward looking car during its time that the evolved 9th gen Civic is still contemporary. Ok, no diesel. But that may not be a show-stopper. Lets see.

While I think the current Civic looks smashing, the new gen is not upto my taste. But looking at the concept pics a couple of pages back, I guess this can be "made to" look better. A good mesh grill should do some wonders in the looks department. Hope they bring in a good Diesel too!

I find it strange that any design which seems plain are now termed to be boring by all people.

Once a car maker thinks of being slightly innovative and gets a lines and curves in it. Then people say its Korean.
I mean when Vento was launched they said its plain jane. Then Fiesta came with curves they called it Korean looking...
Looks like the automakers have nothing to choose from.

I find the design very bland, unremarkable and ordinary. There is nothing to notice in the car, could be just about any other commuter car on roads in any city. Honda may be a victim of its own success with this launch.

Expectations are high for any new launch from Honda, and add to that the futuristic design of the current Civic this has to be one of the bigger disappointments of this year imho.

Also there seem to be no rear AC vents... i thought that was become a standard feature in new cars / models being launched in this segment.
