ALTO by itself outsells all other car manufacturers!

This came in the papers today.

Quote:
Alto's sales have cruised to whopping 1,05,010 cars during April- Spetember 07. Sales of the alto were more than the entire car range of TATA Motors as well as Hyundai Motors in this period
Maruti is offering 7.5k festive discount+ 10k exchange bonus on the Alto.

Just look at those figures! 2 lakh+ cars a year! Proves indians still need affordable motoring, and small cars can make manufacturers happy.

Wonder what the 1L car is going to do to our traffic conjested cities, if it comes out to be a good package overall.

Well, I'm not a Ford hater and Fiesta is one of my favourite cars.

But I had lots & lots of bad experiences with Ford A.S.S and they never seemed to care for the customer !

As far as resale value of Ikon is concerned, Do I need to say more at Team-BHP ?

Kerala absolutely loves the Alto, based on what i had observed during my stints there. For a new family, this car makes absolute sense.

@Mithun, guess i got a bit carried away. When i have a bad experience, i would bring it up here. I dont get paid by Ford India in any way. Till that happens, i stand by what i have said.
As for resale values, i have nothing to say. Look before you leap, should suffice.

Yes! very true. In this months BSM the editor Bijoy mentions the exact same thing! He writes that ALTO is the car in Kerala. Supposedly some of the most decorated, modded ALTO's can be found in the state!!

More importantly:

Honda Siel Cars India sold 5,287 units, a 5 per cent dip from the 5,571 units sold in October last year. Source - business standard.

For true blue scenario the last 3 months figures for NHC / SX4 should be compared. Even Verna..especially last one month since the new advertising push by Hyundai.

Also:

'Sales of US-based car maker General Motors climbed 95 per cent to 6,139 units in October. The company sold 12,000 units of small car Spark which was offered at a discount for ten days. The company said its Tavera, Aveo, Aveo UVA and Optra models have also done well. “The sales figures this month clearly reflect the customer’s confidence in the Chevrolet brand and the consistent growth in monthly sales is an indication of the success of all our car lines,” said P Balendran, vice president, GM India.'

Source - Business STandard

Also:

'Maruti sales grew 20 per cent in the high volume A2 segment (comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen Estilo and Swift) at 47,077 units'

Wonder how many for only Wagon R and Estilo for a compare with Spark!

Maruti A3 segment at 4177 while Hyundai clocked 4061 units. Any idea how Ford, GM and Honda have done in this segment?

GM outsold Honda in October?!

How about Toyota?

Sx4 should be in the top 10 selling cars of India in October. Has it managed to get into the Top 10?

@amit - The GM sales included the spark which sold considerably well thanks to the discounts.
Honda's bread and butter model is the City, which faces stiff competition from the SX4 and Fiesta and Verna.

Agreed. I remember reading somewhere that GM sold 23xx units of Spark in October, compared to the usual average of 2000 units/month. Even after taking that into consideration, GM still sold 852 units more then Honda. Which model helped GM do that?

Next months sales figures will be very interesting. Let's see if Maruti can continue with their SX4 sales. In October, Maruti sold 624 SX4 units more then NHC (4177 SX4 - 3553 NHC), which is a HUGE number. I hope this trend continues because thats the only way Honda will start giving us features in the NHC. Have Indians finally looked beyond the H brand? Has the Indian car buyer finally come of age? Interesting questions that the next few months will answer.

I think the only two petrol cars which are doing good sales wise in Kerala is Alto and NHC. Rest all the cars are mostly diesel.

If this is true, it's a commendation for Honda.
They have the most fuel efficient petrol car in C segment.

Actually the 4177 is SX4 + Esteem. The Esteem is still on sale. I don't think the Esteem sales are negligibly small. Must be selling a few hundreds minimum.
